World Series Game 5 Thread: Coronation or Continuation?

The champs are on  the ropes, they're hopes hanging by a Cliff.

Meanwhile the evilest of empires is 27 outs from its 27th conquest, or the same amount as the White Sox, Braves, Twins, Orioles, Phillies, Indians, Cubs, Marlins, Blue Jays, Mets, Royals, Angels, Diamondbacks, Padres, Astros, Rockies, Brewers, Rays, Rangers, Nationals, and Mariners...combined.

Either this thing goes back to the Bronx or for the sixth straight season a Series ends in less than six games.

do you pull Lee early so that he’d have more available in him for game 7?

Pac-10

The overall depth in the conference is pretty good. Oregon and USC will both get BCS bids when it’s all over this season. Three or four teams could be ranked to finish the season, with the fourth being either Arizona or Oregon State. Arizona State also isn’t that bad. Stanford can handle the weak teams, but struggle with teams right above them. That’s their next step. Overall, a case can be made for the Pac-10 being almost right up there with the SEC this season.

Broncos

Unlike last year, I don’t think they’ll collapse in the second half this season. They still have the Eagles, Giants and Steelers, but they also have the Redskins, Raiders and the Chiefs twice. Being 6-1, they should get to 10-6 easily.

They look pretty terrible, though. They lost to the Lions, they lost to the Chiefs and couldn’t even score a touchdown at home against the Rams. Their wins are against the 0-7 Buccaneers and against someone else that I can’t remember.

Grrrr....

Part of the reason I wanted Lee in Game 4, Blanton in Game 5 is that I felt the Phillies could get to Burnett. How nice it would be to have Blanton going right now — and have had Lee on the mound last night with 4 runs of support.

I know — who knows how well he would have pitched and so on. But I think that was the right move and the Phillies could be taking a 3-2 lead with Pedro and Lee lined up.

Ratings

These are the best World Series ratings since 2004.

Reasoning
  1. The World Series game is a blowout tonight
  2. The Monday night game is a close, high-scoring battle featuring an undefeated team.
  3. The odds of a football game beating out a baseball game is higher than a baseball game beating out a football game.
