ARZ = Athletic's Rumor Zone
Here I go doing a fan post where you can post all the rumors you hear daily about who the A's will trade or have been in trade talks with.
First up..3b..So far I heard runmors about Alex Gordon, Chone Figgins, Miguel tejada, Josh Fields, and Jamey Carrol. Adam Kennedy is likely favorite here with rumors since the A's have talked to his agent. I like the fact of Alex Gordon on the buy low high upside which would cost the A's 1 of their catching prospects and more. Jamey Carrol has been consistent in numbers and is steady at third could be a good stop gap until Wallace is ready. Figgins will be out of the A's price range and Tejada is still to early to figure out.
SP..The A's still want the Duke back. Looks like Tomko will walk. One player that hit the market the other day is Braden Looper to me would be perfect fit for the A's. Not a high cost FA and is a good innings eater pitcher who may need a park like Oakland to give him good numbers again but I have heard no word the A's are after him. Mark Mulder is being pursued heavy by the Brewers so his return is less likely.
SS...Nothing looks like Pennington's job
OF.. Nothing been said but I would not rule out Beane bringing in a power hitter here.
DH..Thome rumor is here if the A's let go of Cust. I wouldn't mind Matsui to get fans in the seats but he is rumored to want to comeback to the Yanks badly.
Anybody else heard anything?? Post the rumors you hear here and we can create to talk in this slow time for baseball.

So Bengie Molina instead, then?

Bengie Molina would make a nice scarecrow,
or something for pigeons to shit on in the middle of the square of a small town…

I've heard a rumor that I'm having a sex change operation,
but I’m not sure where I heard it or why I started the rumor.

Right!
That’s where I heard started it.

You know, I could take this semi-literally
and post a bunch of paragraphs on the pros and cons of sexual reassignment surgery and hormone therapy, because I know a lot of people who have gone through it, and it’s a hard hard road.
You’ll probably be happier just being Cindi on the weekends. Shave your legs though; those flesh-colored tights underneath your fishnets are SO OBVIOUS!

I would really like to know where you saw the A’s linked to Alex Gordon, Chone Figgins, and Josh Fields.
Do you have any links?

Not really a rumor but...
some people might be interested to hear De Los Santos is apparantly throwing in the mid 90’s and Beane is encouraged by his progress since the TJ surgery. Didn’t want to create a fanpost so I thought i’d post it here for those who are interested.

that is great news
wow, can you imagine if he pans out? it’d be like finding $20 in your pocket…then that $20 turns into a major league pitcher w/ an awesome strikeout rate.

I really think DLS could be ready to compete for a spot in the rotation
Spring 2011 if things roll right. He has lost some chronological time to injury so he may as well be pushed, and if he finishes 2010 in AAA he could come to spring training in 2011 in about the same position Cahill, Anderson, and Mazzaro did this spring — ticketed to start at AAA and earn a callup or force the issue with a good Spring showing (or not pitch that great in the Spring but make it anyway because half the rotation gets injured).

I look forward to seeing him in Sacramento
and will report on his progress, as well as slip him valuable coupons.

I like the update on the Giants' mismanagement
from that same link is a note that Lincecum missed being a Super 2 by a few days, which means his salary next year jumps by an order of magnitude. Gee Sabs, if you just waited a bit, you could save yourself another year of Zito’s salary. Alas…

Lincecum
Could be a $10 million man this off season.
Gee. Wonder what he'll spend it on.

Maybe buy a farm up north to grow his favorite herbs
He could get some help from the Harry Potter kid.
Pot is likely going to be legal in California before next World Series.
However, I’m going to stick with team loyalties and buy

What I want to know is
when will Esteban open up his own distillery?
He should call his rum “Ferrari”
He should call it
“Essence Of Mediocrity.”

Do you mean "missed NOT being a Super 2 by a few days"?
Your way would benefit the Giants, no?

Not accurate!!!
DLS was throwing in the mid-90s during Instructs but the A’s had to shut him down because his elbow started hurting again. My info comes straight from the A’s coaching staff in an interview posted on Scout.com in early October.

ok... that was early October, this is November 16...

When does Instructional League end?
If it’s going on now, the Chicago Tribune article linked is probably more accurate. If IL stopped a while ago, grover is probably right and the Tribune article probably found out the info from an old article and is outdated.
Does anyone know when IL ended/does end?

Well, from what I could find
from poking around on MiLB.com and Wikipedia, is that there is no “Instructional League”, but that it’s another name for Rookie-level leagues.
If that’s true, the A’s have two Rookie-level affiliates: the AZL Athletics in the Arizona League, and the DSL Athletics in the Dominican Summer League (Rookie-level clubs get quite inventive with team names, apparently). Both of our R-class affiliates finished their seasons at the end of August.

No, there's no light,
in the darkest of your furthest reaches.
Nope
Instructional League is not accurately a “league” at all; it’s really more like a skills camp, where players work on the boring but necessary fundamental rudiments. It doesn’t produce statistics of any kind, but every team has one.
It’s similar to extended spring training, but unlike extended spring (which is very basic stuff aimed at players in short-season leagues and players who are rehabbing injuries), most of a team’s prospects will attend instructional league, even the ones already playing in full season leagues.
All this is of course super-general and says nothing about the question of when instructs ended.

The A's are running a camp in the Dominican
Or at least, they were as of the end o’ October so I assume it’s still going.

Why is this s**t so secretive anyway?

I think it's mostly secretive in the way
my shopping list is secretive: It’s there if anyone wants to see it, but nobody really seems to care.

yeah, no one covers Instructs
because there are no games going on. Hell, no one covers Rookie League games either.
Don't believe in yourself.
Believe in Me who believes in You.
Instructs are over, they ended in mid-October
The A’s are running a camp down in the Dominican and it’s possible that DLS is down there throwing mid-90s heat but 6 weeks seems like an awfully short amount of time for him to be back on the mound, especially the way Pitching Coach Gil Patterson was talking about the injury back in October. The A’s were extremely happy with how DLS was throwing prior to his elbow acting up again (which goes along with the Trib article) but the guy doesn’t include a time stamp for when Beane was happy and he makes no mention of Beane being in the Dominican when he found his happiness.
None of Oakland’s beat writers have said anything about a currently healthy DLS, it seems a tad optimistic to go on this little blurb out of Chicago.
The monster at the end of this blog.
My sense was that this guy was reporting stuff from the GM meetings in Chicago

If DLS was firing 95MPH fastballs across the conference table,
he probably got the attention of more than a few GMs.

I do believe
they ended the instruction league but I will shoot a e-mail over to Susan at the chron to find out for sure.
Susan answer
Read it at sfgate. DLS is still pitching good according to Beane.
What do you guys think of Brian Tallet?
I think he could be a nice Joe Kennedy type who can start and releive for us and he’s under control til 2012.
I would trade Kurt Suzuki and Brett Wallace for him but that's IT.

No! Your a moran.
Chipper is old and Yunel has a bad attitude, whereas Gray put up a BB/K ratio of 4:19 and he’s cost-controlled!!!11
