World Series 2009 - who you got?
At the begining of the playoffs I posted a prediction post on who I thought would win the World Series and as is often the case I was completely right as I predicted the Philadelphia Phillies would be in the World Series.
I was a little less right about the fact that I thought they'd lose the World Series to the Boston Red Sox but hey that still means I'm batting .500 although it is a small sample size (that's for you statheads).
So the question is real simple....who you got?
I see the Phillies making Derek Jeter lovers (Buck/McCarver/ESPN/Models/Actresses/Puppies/God) unhappy and beating the Yankees in 7 games.
I'm getting fancy this time and putting up a poll.

My head says Yankees, my heart is with the Phillies b/c they are not the Yankees.

I'm going with my heart as well
but I really do believe the Phillies can beat the Yankees. It really should be a great World Series and for the sake of baseball I hope it’s a competitive series.

Should be an interesting Series...
…but here’s my problem:
It’s now been 22 days since the end of the regular season. The Phillies have played 9 games in those 22 days, same as the Yankees. In the regular season teams usually play, what, maybe 19 or 20 games over any 22-day stretch.
If the A’s were playing, the World Series would obviously be extremely important to me. But two teams I’m not invested in…well, I’ll probably watch a good portion of the Series, but I can tell you that this coming Saturday night I’m more interested in USC-Oregon.
This issue of diluting the postseason with the addition of all the off days to suit the television networks needs to be fixed, and soon.

&%$#ing rec'd
The length of this “new” postseason is insane, as is its effect on pitching staffs. It’s like every game is the last game of the season— who cares if you throw in everything but the kitchen sink; the next game isn’t for a week anyway.
Without going into any radical revamps of the basic structure, they could at least revert it to the pre-2007 methodology so that teams couldn’t use a damn three-man rotation.

Aren't the freakin' playoffs done yet?
It seems like ages since the season ended. It’s almost Halloween. I thought the World Series was supposed to be done by now.

You should root for the yankees
1) If the yankees win, the red sox have to spend more. The more the two teams dump into payroll the higher luxury tax they pay. that is more money for the A’s and IFA’s.
2) the Yankees need to win the world series every few years to remind us all they are evil. If the yankees never win the WS they will just be a sad big payroll team that will ganer some sympathy at some point, like the mets.
3) Nick Swisher
4) Maybe it will end the Alex rodriguez sucks stuff

You shouldn't root for the yankees

The only compelling argument is Nick Swisher!!
Regarding Item 2 – I’d like to see a money team NOT win just because they expect TO win since they can virtually get any player they want.
I just can’t root for the Yankees…..

"I just can't root for the Yankees"
I’m with you there BERRY JO. I really believe the Yankees represent everything that is wrong and unfair about baseball and I will never root for them under any circumstances.

Can't believe I'm kinda defending NY
But you do realize there are a handful of teams that do the exact same thing the Yankees do, right? Spend, spend, spend … the Red Sox, Mets, Angels, Dodgers, and Cubs, just to name a few.
Sorry, but I can’t get real mad at the team that spends the most and not “hate” on the others just the same. Let’s get real — once your payroll hits about 150 million, who’s counting?!
I needed a team so I wouldn’t turn into one of the eighty million pink hat-wearing Bud Light-drinking mulleted idiots at Fenway.

Number of teams with payrolls over 150M: One.
(yes, the Mets were 149M and the Cubs were 134M, but still)

Yankees
I think the Yankees will sweep. I hope the Phillies take them out in seven.

Go Yankees!
Sorry, I’m no Yankees fan, to be sure. But anything that makes Red Sox fan miserable is alright by me. That’s why I’m cheerin’ for NY — because it pisses Boston off.

I think the Phillies can repeat
they have the firepower in the lineup and if the pitching staff is on they can be lights out. It will be tough but maybe if they get beat Burnett a couple times and stay close against Pettite and CC they will have a great chance.
It’s kind of lame that the defending champs are viewed as underdogs but the Stankies definitly have some starpower on their team. It should be a good series.

On that score,
while I wouldn’t say anything bad about either, I would say that Beyoncé wins the contest easily.

So far it's looking like AN likes the Phillies to win it all
this probably means the Yankees will win in a sweep but I sure hope the Phillies can get it done.
No matter who wins I just hope we get some great baseball as these are the last games that will count until April!
