to a minor league contract. It wouldn't surprise me to see him with the major league club at some point this season. Since the A's play Seattle many times, we may be seeing a fair amount of Sweeney again -- of course, this time in a Mariners' uniform.
I personally don't know whether he has enough left to really help a team offensively, mainly because of his injury history, so I wouldn't have favored seeing the A's sign him. However, I don't like the way he was treated by the A's when they let him go. Even Sweeney -- who is known throughout the game as a great guy -- had some public words about that treatment.
