MLB Front Office Manager
2K Sports MLB Front Office Manager is coming out on the 26th for PC, XBOX and PS3. What does this have to do with A's fans? Apart from the game looking very interesting, focusing on the Management of the game, our own Billy Beane played a large roll as a consultant in the development of the game.
I haven't bought a Baseball Game since MVP Baseball 2006, so I am looking forward to the game myself.

i've read a few not so good reviews about the game,
but who cares. i cant wait for this game to come out. i cant wait to start my a’s franchise and put my lineups and pitching rotation together. or trade a certain unproductive shortstop. maybe negotiate an extension for holliday.

If you want to take a look at how involved the game can be, I’ll let you browse around the pages for the online league that I run (AND THAT THEJD44 NEEDS TO COME JOIN), The Global Unified Baseball Association.
Here’s a link to the GUBA league page
That’s just an example of the HTML output the game creates. Click around, look at stuff like player pages and other stuff.
It’s a really, really cool game. There are full MLB roster sets, most of them aren’t that good, but the amount of stuff that you can customize to be the way you want it is pretty much unlimited.
Hey, it's taken me a month to set up my own fictional league!
At some point I will, just don’t have enough time right now.

Agreed
The old mercy rule came in handy versus the Lovely Ladies when your aim was to accumulate the most cash.

The one for SNES was cool
A baseball stadium in space. Attributes such as the hyperfast fastball, the spiraling curveball, the earthquake ball, and the screaming linedrive that bulldozed back any fielder attempting to catch the ball.

Don't forget the "Rickey speed" running
Where a bunt becomes a double, and anything that went to the wall was at least a triple!
I loved that game…
Ah, the days of using two controllers to play as both teams...
…and hitting everyone over and over to get to the mercy rule fastest.

i don't see how
anyone could claim a better game than rbi baseball for the original nintendo. it didn’t have the a’s but the tiger/angels matchups were heavenly.

I haven't played OotP in a couple years
Did they ever synch up with MLB rosters?
The monster at the end of this blog.
I just bought OOTP 9 and it came with an absolutely dreadful 2008 "opening day" roster
I never liked playing real leagues, but man, this roster set was terrible. I’m not entirely convinced that the ratings weren’t mostly random. It was also odd to see some top prospects not in the game but 24-year-old Low A ball roster filler guys were.
I’m still setting up my fictional league, but the level of customization always amazes me.

I've never bought a baseball game, ever...
don’t think I’ll start now.

good game
But it’s getting a little too old for the A’s. i just put the 2009 roster together and I had to create the entire pitching staff (besides Duke but he needed to be edited for more stamina). Holliday also isn’t that great in the game because it was his 1st or 2nd years stats.
Any idea if some of the young A’s that were traded for the last couple years are hidden in the minor leagues under different names?

Unfortunately, it mostly feels like you’re being charged $40 for something that offers little beyond what you’ve seen in previous games’ GM and Owner modes. [Feb 2009, p.84]30 Game Informer
The nuts and bolts of gameplay are apocalyptic failures, but the awfulness doesn’t stop there. Managing games is utterly pointless. [Feb 2009, p.85]
A's v Giants "is kind of like the difference between going to see the Ramones and going to see the Bee Gees. A's fans will go see the Ramones." -BB 07/27/05
That's unfortunate since the GM/Owner features in every console game I've played are terribly lacking
It’s silly that a game based on those features can’t even measure up.

I mean all you are doing is balancing spread sheets. The software algorithms do all the work. Society building engines like Civ and Simcity have been doing that for ever and well.

I think the real problem is that the mainstream game companies aren't willing to put in the research required
to be as accurate as they need to be. It’s taken OOTP years to get player development right. It’s not easy. Simple things like that are very important for a game that doesn’t rely on the fun of playing out games.

Somewhat OT post
Quick background: Setting up my OOTP league and I’m using real minor league ballparks for my minor league teams (just changing names and pretending some are located in different places).
I need to know if anybody is aware of a site that has minor league park field dimensions/wall heights. It’s a minor, cosmetic thing, but I want to get that right. Wikipedia helps for some of the parks, but not all.

OOTP Leagues
These leagues that you guys are talking about, such as the one that was linked above – is each team run by someone, and if so, what is the cost from season to season?
Thanks
How is your league set up in respect to the owners? All actual people, or are some of the teams run by sim AI?
Nevermind
I did a little searching thru your league and found what I was looking for. I may have to look into getting this game…
We have 36 teams in the big leagues, and we have 36 owners.
Feel free to register on the forums and jump into the fray — just let me know what username you choose and I’ll approve you, we have the forums on admin approval to keep spambots out.
Cool, thanks
It appears the ootpdevelopment page is blocked for me at work; I’ll probably check it out this weekend. Thanks for all the info!
I'm having a hard time with recent baseball games
just because the A’s are always terrible in these games. I’m hoping MLB 09: The Show won’t have the A’s so terrible.

And if the game is anything like MVP 05
The eye/patience/walk rating is, literally, NOT USED by the AI in player evaluation. I guess the theory behind this is most people don’t play in a way that allows for walks, but still, a huge part of the batter/pitcher matchup essentially doesn’t matter – and that’s a programming decision.

OOTP 9
I just played the demo of OOTP9 because of this thread, and let me say… holy shit that game is amazing. I used to play Baseball Mogul a few years ago… and it does not compare to this. MIkev, if I purchased this game would I be able to join one of your leagues?
My religion is A'slamic.
