Rickey joins A's staff in goodwill role

The A's have hired recent Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson in a goodwill capacity for the 2009 season, and the club is looking for an extension to the club's Spring Training site contract, which expires in 2012.

i hope maybe this will lead to a more prominent role with the A's as the year goes by, he would be great to mentor some of the younger players

RICKEY: Rickey loves being with the people, and the people love being with Rickey. If the world could bottle all the love Rickey used to feel when he ran out to left field, well then we’d have quite a party now, wouldn’t we? So Rickey will be spreading the love, and the good will— all over Oakland.

What does Goodwill Role mean?

Can anyone tell me exactly what “Goodwill Role” means? Does he get paid to attend community events as a spokeperson for the A’s or is he actually involved in the on-field activities?
