650, 000 minor league deal, up to 1 million if he pitches in the majors. I know the guy needs a total arm replacement, but the guy is only 27 years old and WAS a stud - the question is could he be again? I would have liked to have him for that cheap...low risk, high reward type of pitchers out there - I think we missed the boat on him the year - but then again he may never pitch again. B. Colon anyone - similar deal? Our hot dog revenue would increase with his daily consumption.

I think Colon would be among the better risks,
along with F. Garcia and Mulder. Colon probably has a better chance than Mulder of pitching an effective major league season, though either is as likely to be a poor #5 starter as he is to be a solid #3.

ya but the problem with a pitcher named Colon
is that he always “stinks” it up, no matter what. That being said, I’d like to take a shot on all of the above pitchers in a minor league contract is possible.

sign Mulder and Garcia for cheap
and let them battle it out for a spot on the roster. Who knows, maybe the A’s get lucky and they both have bounce back years.

I thought it would have been a good idea to go after Saito from he dodgers
The Red Sox got a very low risk deal that would easily be worth it for them if he performed as well as he has he past couple years. Adding a sub-2 ERA, under 1 WHIP and under .200 career BAA to the pen, be it as a closer or as a 8th inning guy would be huge addition.
I feel ok with Devine, Ziggy and Blevins, but Devine Saito and Ziggy sounds much better. And the A’s could have afforded it after missing out on Furcal.
"I think people in this state like BOTH teams," proclaims Nick Aliotti, the Ducks' defensive coordinator. "Except for our hard-core fans, I don't think most Duck fans would have been terribly upset to see Oregon State going to the Rose Bowl."
Another reason he needs to go.

Good point - the A's did lose bullpen depth when they traded Street
and any chance to pick up a sleeper at a bargain price would be very worthwhile.

Or, we could have bought
650,000 to 1,000,000 lottery tickets. If we’d won the mega millions, we could have signed Sabathia. It’s a better bet than Prior.

I looked through the
Free agent list. I think Freddy Garcia could be a good stopgap this year. He’ll come cheap and will like the ballpark and defense for trying to get a real contract next offseason.

Since Colon is getting up there in years (and pounds, yes I know),
and Mulder is coming back from multiple setbacks, I would think Garcia was among the better bets. He has a very good changeup and breaking pitch, so even if he can’t hit 90MPH with his fastball he could be effective. And he’s young enough, with little enough of an injury history, that his odds of coming back should be decent.

Freddy
I would like us to sign at least one of the below:
Freddy Garcia – the question is, would he come to oakland for really cheap.
O. hernandez – yes, he’s a grandpa, but we almost signed RJ at 44. El Duque is nasty if healthy, and if he didn’t work out as a starter, could give the bullpen some help.
M. Mulder – I think we have said enough about him
Pedro – not sure if would take anything cheap or would want to come to oakland – he’s probably end of a yankee.

how many surgeries has prior had?
shoulder and elbow, right? or was it just the shoulder? i seem to recall more than one major surgery. such a shame, too…dude had great mechanics and looked like he’d be one of the best for a long time, but was just pushed too hard too early.

He didn't actually have great mechanics.
