Wearing the cap
Live today from New York, Hall of Fame President Jeff Idleson announced that Rickey Henderson will be wearing an A's cap on his plaque as he enters the HOF. This is probably a foregone conclusion, but what is not is Rickey's desire to suit up again. I say welcome him back to Oakland and let him play at least for one game and while we are at it, put Mark McGwire into the Hall of Fame in the future. The Tribune's Carl Steward wrote a fine piece on voting him McGwire and others, although my rationale for voting Big Mac is in different. I think he produced enough home runs to get into the Hall of Fame and I believe he was a conscientious player and person.

It doesn't matter if we welcome him back or not.
Rickey doesn’t care if you welcome him back. Rickey does what he wants to do. Rickey’s the greatest… Rickey’s the greatest…
"To this day and dating back 25 years, before every game he plays, Henderson stands completely naked in front of a full length locker room mirror and says, "Ricky’s the best," for several minutes."

Eligibility
I thought he couldn’t come back for one game because it will move his eligibility back five more years.

Not any more, I don't think
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

As far as I know, it's never happened
It would be a great publicity stunt if Rickey came back and played as a HOFer. If the A’s clinch early, imagine bringing Rickey back for a couple games and then retiring his number. Talk about style.

Jim Palmer
Jim Palmer attempted a comeback after he had been elected to the hall of fame. He made it partway through spring training and then decided not to go on with it.
