The Oakland A's today selected infielder Jeff Baisley from Triple-A Sacramento. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's have released first baseman/designated hitter Mike Sweeney.
Baisley batted .298 with nine home runs and 44 RBI in 81 regular season games with Sacramento this year and then hit .500 (8 for 16) with two home runs and six RBI in the first round of the PCL Playoffs.
Sweeney hit .286 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 42 games with the A's in 2008.
Emil Brown lives another day.
