Sept. 12 Event for Korach Charity
I won't be breaking news here by saying it's been a rough year for the A's and their fans. Brutal.
But here's one positive thing you can do that will make a difference to kids in the East Bay. Send your pledge money to Ken Korach's Winning for the Community Fund.
At the beginning of the season A's radio god Ken Korach generously pledged $100 for every A's win, with the money going to support baseball in Oakland Schools. A lot of people here at AN jumped in and offered to make their own pledges, usually in the $1 -2 range per victory. Here's a link to the pledge thread. To date, we've raised $2,646.15!
On September 12, Ken will present a check to the Foundation at the A's game. And our our own Batgirl will present the check from AN. So even though the season isn't over, it's time to start collecting money for pledges. It's up to you to decide how much you want to pay. You could pay just for wins to date, and pay the rest later. Or you could pretend that the A's will will end up at .500 and write a check based on 81 wins. That's what I'll do.
And of course, if you didn't make a pledge and want to chip in--even for $5 or $10--every dollar is appreciated.
According to Ken, total pledges, including AN, should add up to about $24,000, which is $4,000 for each of the high schools that will get money. One of the coaches told Ken that this would be the perfect amount to really make a big difference with their budget.
Make the checks payable to "A's Communty Fund" and make a note at the bottom that says "Winning for the Community."
You can send the checks to me at the address below. (I'm asking people to send checks to me so that we can keep track of how much AN raises.) If you have any questions, you can email me at sbeck97@gmail.com.
Thanks to everyone who is contributing. Go A's!

Thanks. It will be great for AN to participate in the event!

It's best to write a check to the Community Fund
That way you can get a tax deduction— I think. (I’ll check on the tax deduction status).
But if that’s a problem, let me know.

What's the latest you are accepting checks?
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.

To include them in the presentation on the 21st
You should mail them by next Monday, Sept. 15. Anything I get after that date will still go to the Foundation, but won’t be included in the presentation on the 21st.
TO EVERYONE: Please include your email address when you send your check. That way I can give you a confirmation that I got it.
Also, as far as using PayPal, I’d rather not do that because I don’t want any money going into my account. I want to keep it all separate. If you want to use a credit card, you can see if the A’s Foundation will accept them. You could call 510-638-4900 x2241 or email community@oaklandathletics.com.
Finally, contributions are tax deductible!

I just wanted to throw it out there
In addition to my pledge, I also advised Ken that I would donate $1 for every book I sold. Well, that has worked for me about as well as this season has. So if you had “planned” on giving more because you expected the A’s to do better, you can make up for it in other ways. :)
It really is a decent read, but hey don’t take my word for it. Take his, or his, or his (you can listen to me and Marty), or even hers!
That is all.
I'm here to talk about the past.

I'll write the check tonight
65 wins x $1.50 per win = $97.50 coming your way.
I’d bump it up a little ahead of time but I have no idea how many wins they’ll finish with so I’ll send this now and make up the difference after the season is over.

Sorry about date mixup
It is the 12th, not the 21st (as I originally wrote). We won’t be able to collect checks before that date. So… the plan now is to present Ken with a dummy check for the amount pledged, and then we’ll send the Foundation the actual checks later.
Although there’s no rush to get the checks in, it would be good to collect them this month, so that the schools can plan their budgets.
