A's now Black and Orange

I hadn't gone to the Official Web Site in awhile but to my horror, insted of Green and Gold, their colors have changed to disgusting colors. What is going on with this franchise?  For 41 seasons we have embraced the teams colors as opposed to names on the back (BS). How many more times can they diss us? No radio coverage, a lousy TV contract, no 3rd deck, etc. Wolffie complains that we don't show up, but loyality is a 2 way street.

If you take off that ugly hat...

you might get to the root of that itch:

from this season’s new “Twisted” line… I bought this one for a Giant’s fan friend of mine:

I doubt it...

it was just the latest in a series of Giant’s bashing gag gifts I’ve passed on.

The regional/rivalry caps are interesting, if only for shock vaue. But for the life of me, I can’t figure out why anyone would buy anything in the Pirates colors. Of course, I feel the same way about black & orange, albeit for different reasons, but I digress…

It's baseball's ways of getting money...

….from non-baseball fans.

Seriously, you can get Yankees caps in every color of the freakin’ visible light spectrum these days. They’ll do infrared and ultraviolet before you know it…

Otherwise, it could've just been an MLB site glitch.

Let’s not assume every little thing you see is an attempt by the team to drive away fans. They’re obviously not taking the Giants colors.

Yet another reason I think SBNation needs to institute a "lock" on posting until a certain

number of comments have been reached. This guy, “bamaA’sfan”, 6 fan posts 50 comments. And you wonder why you get trash like this?

by 33SwisherSweet on Sep 4, 2008 12:36 PM PDT   0 recs

I honestly don't understand it

I have 3 or 4 fanposts I want to do, but it’s much, much easier to just leave a bunch of dumbass comments in other peoples’ threads. What compels people to put all the work into making a crappy fanpost?

by thejd44 on Sep 4, 2008 1:07 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

b/c you're a part of the community

That, to me, is what defines a troll — someone who has no interest in being part of (and perhaps isn’t even really aware of) the community.

by monkeyball on Sep 4, 2008 1:22 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I made that mistake

I was fanpost crazy at first (although I thought some of my diaries were decent; then again, I am biased) but realized later that in order to be accepted, I had to contribute to other posts as well. It was a hard lesson. Even lately, I have resorted back somewhat because time simply doesn’t allow me to stick around for long, only enough time to kick out a fanpost now and then.

What was the question again?

I'm here to talk about the past.

+ a huge, nearly infinite amount

I actually think you would be the exception that proves the rule. Even if you never had a comment anywhere else, it is easy to see with the amount of work you put into your posts-that info, detail, images, and just the passion you show that you are a true fan and care a lot about both what you write and the A’s.

Nobody is saying a new user can't do a fanpost

I don’t think anybody would complain if a newbie put the work into a post the way you clearly do, even if the ideas aren’t among the accepted norms here. I would love to read a well-reasoned 1000 word argument about why RBIs are the most important offensive stat (sidenote: I don’t think it’s possible to do this, but if somebody did it’d be worth reading).

As I thought about it, I realized that some of my comments and the comments of others on this board are actually longer than the fanposts that get ripped to shreds. In fact, this fanpost is 83 words. This comment is going to be more than 100. I guess it’s easy to waste time on a fanpost when you’re putting 30 seconds into the entire thing.

by thejd44 on Sep 4, 2008 6:39 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Can I do a spoof

on the 1000-word RBI post?

Did you know when God took that part from Adam to make Eve, he first called it a “ribbie”. I’d say right there, it’s a pretty important element.

Well, depending on who you talk to, I guess. Some say that Adam might have been better off on his own. Or is that gotten off on his own? Anyways…

I'm here to talk about the past.

This post was not trolling

For the last 4 weeks when I have gone to the A’s site, it has been coming up black and orange. It has bothered me. To be sure that this color thing was not my computer, I checked two franchises that are definitely green, Jets and Celtics and they came up fine. This post was made to see if others had the same problem. The glitch started when I moved from Bay area Comcast to Sacramento Comcast (more issues with Sac. cable). I posted this out of a sense of frustration with the way things have come down this season not thinking that I was going to have abuse heaped on me.Troll/no. Loyal A’s fan for 41 seasons/yes.

What can I say!

I am and have always a passionette A’s Fan. Some responses have characterised me as someone who has just started posting on AN and accused me of trolling, Not the case. Shortly after Blez started AN, I registered and became part of the community. When 2.0 came about, I lost my original screen name. I contacted Blez and I was unable to retrieve my original AN name(lostin1965). To some, buy it or not! I have been an A’s fan since before most of you were born! My passion runs deep and long. I left the A’s fan forum because I found an intelligent site with A’s fans who loved and believed in my team. Every day, the 1st site I check is AN. I have loved this site until today. I agree with everone’s opion, but I respect them and would never ridicule or belittle them!

Elitist A's Fans....

You guys bashing the bamaA’s fan need to chill….you don’t own this site and you don’t own the A’s. There are thousands of fans out here who might read the site, occassionally post or perhaps never post….so what… it doesn’t make them any less of fan than you. By jumping this guy for posting only makes you look like the juveniles you are.

i’m not going to call all of you juveniles, but there is definitely a bit of elitism on this site sometimes. it feels like if you haven’t been here for a few years and made 5,000 comments, you couldn’t possibly be a real fan with some intelligence. a bit of a turn-off…

then over here you have favoritism.

are you suggesting that if a user with over 5,000 comments claimed the colors on the official a’s website had been changed to orange and black, people would believe it?

Nobody questioned anybody's fandom

Or even their right to express themselves. In fact, it’s rather hypocritical of you to defend a person’s right to post by saying other people posting in opposition is wrong.

Personally, if I’m going to waste my time when I should be working by coming here, I’d prefer to do so by reading some combination of informed, entertaining, thought-provoking, funny, interesting, or so-dumb-it’s-entertaining-funny-and-interesting. People who sign up and immediately post an 83 word fanpost that is, at best, a problem with his monitor doesn’t really fall into any of those categories.

Nobody jumped on anybody for posting. As far as I can tell, everybody is questioning the content of the post. I think that’s completely fair in a community that facilitates discussion among people with a common interest.
