A little bit of reimbursement for an otherwise completely depressing game
I was kicked off the game threads early, but I was still able to watch the game on TV. And I was really, REALLY shocked when I heard Glen Kuiper just say my name. On TV. For no reason. It was kind of cool, actually. I guess they got my name from my email that I sent in to vote for the best moment of 2008. Ok, this whole post is a major understatement. I went completely spastic for at least 20 minutes. But whatever. I just wanted to post so people could share in my excitement, or just laugh at me. My name's Katrina Hawthorne, by the way, in case anybody was wondering.
I'm going to have a picture post up, with big pictures, in a couple of days.
Thanks to Jennifer and Schmifty for helping me with tech problems!!
Also, please don't hate me, but if anybody happens to have the ninth inning taped, or something, is there a possibility I could have a copy? I'd pay if you want -- I don't care. I just really want to have a copy of my 2 seconds of pointless fame, and MLB.TV won't let me have it.
Enjoy the offseason as well as you can, AN!

Just curious
What was your best moment of 2008?
I mean, besides Glen Kuiper saying your name or going spastic for 20 minutes, which, incidentally, beat my spastic-best mark by seven minutes.
BTW, congrats.
I'm here to talk about the past.
I had trouble deciding...
So I voted for Mark Ellis and bullied my friend into for voting for Ziggy. Hannahan is awesome, but Unicorn and Ziggy come first. So it was a tie for me, I guess.

That question irritated me, because
“throwing 39 scoreless innings” isn’t a moment! It’s like asking, “What was your favorite game: today’s game, Opening Day, or the 2002 season?”

my favorite game
was the one in spring when they all dressed up in 1968 uniforms (and the Rangers dressed as the Senators). Besides everyone looking really cool witih those high socks, they won the game.
My favorite moment? Has to be the K-Rod throwaway win!
I was a Bay Alarm winner two seasons ago
when Jay Payton homered after Buan announced me as a Bay Alarm contestant (I had earlier in the season written an email that he read on the air).
I was at the game so didn’t hear my name…however some work colleagues got all excited and spent the next few days emailing me about it.
The HR was worth an autographed baseball and two mvp level tickets, by the way.
My best moment
Well, I don’t know if it was my best, but last week, while driving home from a game, I was listening to KCBS radio and heard their “sports announcer” say, “Well, the A’s gave up a 2-run home run to Mark Teixeira in the 9th inning, and that’s the game; A’s lose, 2 to 1.” Of course, you may recall that the A’s came back in the bottom of the 9th and won that game. I was amazed that KCBS was relying on information from someone who obviously closed up their laptop a bit early, so I dashed off a note to radio@oaklandathletics.com when I got home. I didn’t hear Robert Buan mention my email, but the next day I got a return email telling me that I’d won the email contest and would be receiving two lift tickets! I didn’t have any idea that I was entering a contest, so this was a very cool surprise. Especially since I’d just told someone that I thought my skiing days were over. Apparently not. (Still haven’t received the tix, btw.)
Hmmm…
…I emailed a response to Sunday’s “Everything Must Go” edition of “Extra Innings” which got read along with several others in a row and found my prize waiting for me in today’s mail. Maybe you can send a follow up email while they’re possibly still closing down shop for the season?

One time my section won the free pizza after a grand slam.
Everyone was jumping up and down very excited. The screen said that an Athletics representative would come by shortly. We waited all game but no one ever came.
The A's marketing department obviously wasn't prepared
for a scenario where the A’s actually scored four runs.
