Concern for catcher depth
It's amazing Suzuki has been able to play so many games and remain productive. but he's not a big guy, I wonder how much of this will wear on him.
I'm concerned that our catch depth drops off too much once Suzuki goes down. Looking at the two games that Bowen caught, Outman gave up 10 hits on Tue, and the Wed stinker. I wonder if we can really trust Bowen as a backup to handle our pitching staff over a full season.

I thought she was a pretty good writer. Not sure how deep though.

I assume your title is supposed to be "Concern for catcher depth" because I am really not interested in the depth of someone's Cather
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
You misspelled catheter.
And I share your concern – nothing worse than a catheter pushed too far in.

Cather? I hardly knew 'er!
Come on, there’s plenty to go around.

OK, fine
I’m denouncing this FanPost as a piece of catherist heresy.
It's just something we do. It's not something we like. @('.')@
Thanks for CATCHING the typo
Time to pile on the AN’s who misspells, now that there is nothing left to say about the team?
Anyway, just to see how A’s do in games Bowen caught, I did a quick look. He caught 25 games (started), A’s giving up 4.72 runs per game in those, and win 44%. A little worse than their season average, but probably not a big difference.
What is interesting is that there are 12 games that Bowen came in late in the game, the A’s are 0-12 in those, and giving up 9.9 runs per. Don’t know if there is any cause and effect here, but the genral take-away from this is that, if you see Bowen comes in as a late game PH or C replacement, time to head to the parking lot.

CERA is pointless
It’s not correlated in any way with an actual skill.

For a second there..
I thought you were referring to Component ERA.
Who the hell would have the audacity to mix Component ERA and Catcher ERA with the same acronym.

Catcher ERA
Is totally irrelevant and needs to be destroyed from the depths of my memory.
I remember when Tim McCarver once used it as a justification for why Jason Varitek is the best catcher ever.

Sorry.
Not Jason Varitek, Brad Ausmus.
This was back when Ausmus was catching Oswalt, Pettite, and Clemens.

There is only a real problem here if you don't think Landon Powell can either stay healthy or produce
And I think both are legitimate concerns (though it’s possible he will eventually stay healthy and be good).
I’d be surprised if a cheap defensive-minded veteran catcher weren’t brought in for spring training next year.

Recker should be added to the roster
Point of fact, I’m surprised he hasn’t been yet. They could just put Duke on the 60-day DL.
I don’t think the A’s have a depth issue… they might have a “good” issue, but a “cheap defensive-minded veteran catcher” isn’t going to solve that…
