Vote Daily ! Bill King for Frick Award
Fan voting for the Frick award has opened at the Baseball Hall of Fame website : Frick Award Voting .
"Once again this year, fans have the opportunity to be a part of the process for selecting the 2009 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually to a baseball broadcaster for major contributions to the game.
Three of the 10 names on the final Frick Award ballot will be chosen by fans throughout the month of September. Select up to three (3) candidates from the ballot below. You may vote once each day during the month of September. The final 10-name ballot, featuring the three fan selections, will be announced on Dec. 9, 2008."
Our votes have helped get Bill on the ballot in the past . Let's do it again.
I miss hearing Bill call the game and talk about baseball, A's baseball, road trips, restaurants, the weather. His stories were the best.

That is BS. Every year Bill has been the top internet vote getter, but hasn't gotten
the vote from the BBWAA. We will get him on again, though.

He wasn't last year ...
he was second by something like an 8 to 1 margin …
If we put up a total like they did last year, he’s got a very solid chance …

Seems to be a little different this year
In the past they would name the seven whom the Hall of Fame committee placed on the ballot, delete those names from the fan voting and let the fan voting determine the final three. Looks like they’re reversing it this year; the fans will pick the first three and then the committee will pick seven from the remaining names.
I get three votes? Well, Rex Hudler and Ken Harrelson, then whom?? OOOH, Vince Cotroneo is on the ballot!!

Don't miss this Frick-r-tunity!
On the radio Sunday, during a Vince pxp inning, Korach mentioned that the internet Frick vote would be opening up again this week. Then he paused, as though to observe Bill’s modest sense of decorum by not plugging his old partner, but to give Vince the chance to do so instead. Coroneo of course badly missed the obvious set-up, Korach again gave him the in, and again Vince missed. So the balloting got plugged but Bill King did not. Of no particular consequence, except to yet again illustrate Vince’s tone deafness w/r/t the subtleties of A’s baseball.
Arte didn't get much Home Run Derby. He was dug in too deep or moving too fast. His idea of great R&R was cold rice and a little rat meat.

See, with his Bay Area ties,
Roxy Bernstein would not have whiffed on that opportunity. Now I haven’t chatted up Roxy about this, maybe he’s just not interested in coming back to MLB now, or maybe he’s a huge Giants fan who hates anything green and gold. But if he were interested in the job, I’d like to see the A’s at least bring him in for an interview after this season ends.
I’ve learned to live with Cotroneo, I think he makes some pretty incisive observations about the players and the game from time to time. But his play-by-play work is only fair and as FSU suggests he just has never really established a connection with the team or with the East Bay. If the A’s choose to go in a different direction I won’t object.

Vince has actually made modest improvements
this year. In my view he’s gone from moderately awful to baseline acceptable fill-in guy. But he’ll never have “it,” that feel for the pace of the game that the naturals have. So I’d call him adequate replacement level…I’m OK with listening to 3 innings from him every game, but if the A’s chose to fill that slot with someone else I’d miss him about as much as I miss Bobby Kielty. With way worse hair.

I voted for Bert Blyleven as well
It would be bizarre if Bert got the Frick before he got into the HOF as a player.

Tried to vote!
Site said there was an error and I should try again later. I remember this same error happened last year. Anyone else having this problem?

I had that problem yesterday too using Safari (on a Mac)
Today I used Firefox and it worked fine. Not sure if it was the browser or the day, but it seems OK now.
