Ahoy maties! It's the Talk Like a Pirate Day DLD! Arrrrrr!
Grover called me a quitter, and I hate to be called a quitter, so darnnit, here's your stinkin' DLD...(did I get to 75 words yet???)
Aye, I couldn't let this day go without a DLD! Not sure how to talk like a pirate? Fortunately the TLAPD folks have put together this handy guide, so grab a glass of grub and read up!
I have no other links, except one to these guys, because I guess it's relevant....
Scrawl your linkage here! Arrrrrrrr!

RIP...McAfee Coliseum
Hello OAKLAND COLISEUM:
http://www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/localnews/ci_10509375?source=rss
Since all the bad loans are being dumped on the taxpayers
I expect to see the Washington Mutual Coliseum signs go up soon. Whoo hoo!
Since AIG is now
a wholly owned subsidiary of uncle sam i say we make them drop their manchester united shirt sponsorship and throw a few bucks our way….

It would actually
be more efficient for you to short the pizza coupons i have in my ira – if papa john’s folds, you’re fully covered, and if i end up redeeming them you’re no worse off than you would have been when i initially saw you coming and ducked out the back door of peet’s so i wouldn’t have to pay you the ten spot

Arrrrrr, McAfee!
Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty, the Coliseum board’s vice chair, said, “Sponsoring the stadium is a terrific opportunity for any entity desiring a high-profile, highly visible, long-term marketing option.”
OK, so if Neukom is the ultracompetitive shark he’s supposed to be, how funny would it be if the Giants were to sponsor the naming rights? Or, better yet, for the Giants to buy the naming rights, and to officially name it “The Oakland Shithole Oakland Dump Oakland Murder Capital Oakland Coliseum of Oakland”?

Now I have that damn song in me head (of course, whenever Mrs doctorK’s favorite radio station plays it, I think of the ’79 Pirates).

And is it possible that convenient links dumps also contribute to the problem?

This reminds me of the time
I was given the writing prompt, “What is the most important invention in human history” on a state-mandated writing exam. I wrote about the toilet.
I was eleven.

Dear Oakland A's Veterans,
Please, for the love of God, make our rookies dress like this.
Longingly,
Jennifer
PS- I hope Yahoo! gives us similar coverage.
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
did you click through to the boston ones?
LAME. Who chose Jed Lowrie’s outfit. If you’re going with standard drag, you gotta show some skin at least.

I am quite excited to see what they come up with.
The Yankees (I think) did the Wizard of Oz. Booooring.

boy, those hooters guys were looking HOT.. I must say, Wizard of Oz WAS boring but i thought Joba made a great Lion.
And I was disappointed in how Jed was dressed as well. I feel like I am cheating on greg smith (hey, the relationship we have in my world..it’s amazing) with Jed though. Love that guy. I used to see him play with the Pawsox alot. Always liked him. Always hoped the Red Sox would trade him because I hate them. It’s after 2am. Ignore the babble

Heyyy, Mets ones were pretty good.
Full-length Speedo swimsuits.
Yeah, it barely got any coverage though. If the Mets got almost-no coverage, I’m afraid to see what the A’s get.
Awww
Shoot I missed out. I want one of these so bad. The A’s store told me they’d send me one a month ago, but I haven’t received anything :(
wow, I was impressed -- the A's store is sending you men dressed in Hooters uniforms?!?!

I'm curious
where did the term “link dump” start? Is it an AN thing? Or someone get it from somewhere else?
Let's have our Piazza and eat the Cust too - SPWC
I termed this the Daily Link Dump, but I'm fairly certain I had heard
“Link Dump” in some otherm non-AN context

Free to a good home!
I have an extra September A’s magazine. This is the one with Duke on the cover and has a feature about Ry Bear. Free!
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
It is yours.
Email me an address to send it to.
Nothing in return, thanks!
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
Awww
Shoot I missed out. I want one of these so bad. The A’s store told me they’d send me one a month ago, but I haven’t received anything :(
Sorry. :(
For some reason I’m getting TWO of every magazine.
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
they mail me 2 of every issue...
they also mail them to me out of order and really, really late. frustrating.
"Ryan [Sweeney] has got the perfect baseball body..." -Mike Sweeney
Do you subscribe to the Mag?
I called, and the guy said he mailed LAST and THIS month about two weeks ago. I’d call again. Are you calling the team store? I used to try the office number but would never get anyone to answer. I’ve always been able to talk to someone when I call the team store.
Also, eBay if you really want one.
But he came back. And there was much rejoicing.
I did the online subscription signup - twice
and both times my card was never charged and I never received anything. I emailed the store in August, and within an hour they emailed me back saying they’re sorry for the mixup and they’d send me all this season’s mags. But it’s been 3 weeks and I haven’t received anything. I just emailed them again about an hour ago; if I don’t hear back tonight, I’ll call tomorrow and the next day.
eBay got nothin :( I was able to buy the 2005 Harden issue on there, but they have nothing from 2008 – I’ve been checking at least once a week for quite some time.
I gave away all my double issues...
except the Eveland/Smith one just came in the mail so I still have that. I expect I’ll get a 2nd copy of the Duke cover in the mail sometime soon. if you don’t get it worked out with the A’s and that issue does show up for me, you’re welcome to have it :)

Aw, thank you so much!
The A’s clubhouse guy emailed me back and said he shipped everything last week so it should be here any day now – but if nothing comes, I will make sure to message you. Thank you so much! :)
If you still want one, let me know
I had a subscription last year, never renewed, but I still get it mailed to me this year. I’m done reading it, so I can send it along if you want.

That's so nice, thanks a lot!

Replay used in the Twins-Rays game
Umps’ call is overturned and Carlos Pena is given a home run (instead of a double due to fan interference as the umpires had ruled). Looked like the correct call was home run, but it delayed the game for over 4 minutes.
It was a nightmare.

Since gigglingone went to the trouble of a DLD yesterday,
I’ll use it for this, instead of making a new one.
Mark Ellis had successful shoulder surgery yesterday. (and won’t be on the field for the 40th Anniversary Team honor tomorrow, btw.)
A’s owner Lew Wolff, speaking to A’s boosters Friday, said: “We’re talking to Mark now. He didn’t have a really good year. We need hitting. His defense is fantastic. He is a wonderful individual, so I think Billy (Beane) will work to keep Mark.”
Lew needs to shut the hell up. I can’t deal with being teased right now.

he won't be there??? Awwwwwww....

Nope, he won't.
Something on the A’s site Friday that I read via cellphone right after I saw you… :(
Ray: "How fun is it to be up here playing in the Big Leagues?"

He probably heard about my plans for Ellis-knapping him and bringing him to you....

"Knapping"?
You’re going to abduct him in a cab and fill out an expense voucher to be reimbursed by work for the fare, all because of your dislike for public transit, Chinese immigrants, and the homeless?
