Open Game Thread: Game 114 - A's at Toronto

Oakland Athletics at Toronto Blue Jays, Aug 7, 2008 4:07 PM PDT

The A's and Justin Duchscherer look to end a slide against the Toronto Blue Jays and A.J. Burnett.

Duke's stats look like this:

W-LGGSCGSHOSVBSIPHRERHRBBKERAWHIP
2008 - Justin Duchscherer 10-7 19 19 1 1 0 0 127.2 91 38 33 9 31 78 2.33 .96

If there was a guy to end the slide, this is the one.  Course it won't be an easy task as he faces AJ Burnett.

W-LGGSCGSHOSVBSIPHRERHRBBKERAWHIP
2008 - A.J. Burnett 13-9 25 24 0 0 0 0 151.2 152 83 77 12 66 153 4.57 1.44

The lineups are as follows:

Sweeney
Ellis
Thomas
Gonzalez
Brown
Crosby
Hannahan
Barton
Bowen

The Jays go with this group:

Inglett
Wilkerson
Rios
Overbay
Barajas
Lind
Stairs
Rolen
McDonald

Estebrook is having a bad day behind the plate

I don’t think either pitch to Sweeney or Stairs was a strike, but the 2-2 to Rolen was right there.

come from teams with winning pcts of under .450? Because Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum should have great shots at it.

I think they will give it to Lackey or DiceK, maybe Saunders, they’ll leap frog Lee in Wins by the end of the season. Halladay also has a shot.

1972 Carlton's Phillies were 59-97 (.378) and Perry's Indians were 72-84 (.461)

That’s the last time I found both with a losing record.

Carlton won 27 games that year

Not that wins are usually very telling for a pitcher, but he won almost half his team’s games. That’s amazing.

Serious question - given how well he has hit the Blue Jays,

and in this ballpark, and given that the Jays are running McDonald and Eckstein out there, would the Jays be interested in Crosby? Seems like a good fit – I still think there’s a chance he’d do better with a fresh start than he’ll ever do with Oakland.
