Around SBN: Dolphins knock off Rams; get back into playoff race Bar-right-arrows

Open Thread: Game 113 - A's at Blue Jays (cont)

Gio seems to have settled down after a rocky first inning, where he gave up a three-run bomb, but the A's offense is as bad as it gets. They can't be any worse. Yes, they're being no-hit. Yes, it's 3-0 and feels like 10-0. Can things change? One can only hope. We go to the fifth...

Gio seems way better than Eveland or Gallagher

Which makes me wonder why we wanted Gallagher so badly

I think it was more a get whatever we can for Harden thing

and pray he breaks down like always so we don’t look like suckers.

Ya kno...

I’ll give ya that…but it seemed to get away from him even before he just hit “terrible mode” the last few starts…..but he was gettting away with bad pitches

Yes, he never really looked impressive, like Gio does now.

Three run home run?

Man, we could sure use one of those. Remember those days? Oh goodness. I’m nostalgic.

These guys are hopeless.

Seriously. This is a 3-runs-per-game team.

My gosh...

There are many a night I would take 3 from these guys!

by WannaBeGM on Aug 6, 2008 5:06 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Be honest....BE HONEST!!

When Gio gave up that 3-run bomb, how many people heard a voice from inside that said…OK , this one’s over?

Although I understand and love the idea of playing all 9…This year is all bad. I must admit to turning off the TV as that ball landed about 20-25 rows deep.

(However, I can’t get over my radio addiction…..It does help to numb the pain.)

by WannaBeGM on Aug 6, 2008 5:05 PM PDT   0 recs

Jennifer, is there a reason why you roared?

My mlb.tv froze and now I’m wondering if I missed something important

Not really.

General displeasure.

by Jennifer on Aug 6, 2008 5:06 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

This is painful

Why do we strike out all the time? It’s like no one can hit the ball. Make contact…

by butler19 on Aug 6, 2008 5:06 PM PDT   0 recs

Might have something to do with their ability

And the fact that to make contact, you have to swing the bat. Apparently they don’t know the unpire’s strike zone.

Marcum is good when he’s on but he’s facing about 5 hitters that would make another starting 9

I hate unproductive outs and the A's are producing them at record production

by Trainman on Aug 6, 2008 5:08 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Cust 52 K last 99 AB...

WOW.

Bring back Hammer.

by OaktownPower on Aug 6, 2008 5:06 PM PDT   0 recs

Ellis is fine

Can’t argue with an average bat with amazing defense. The problem is when this team relies onhis offense.

You wish. It is not a 3 runs per game team.

As for Cust, if you think lots of strike outs means he’s a bad hitter, you’re completely asinine, just idiotic, you’re really stupid.

Sorry, I thought I was someone else for a minute.

by solotar on Aug 6, 2008 5:07 PM PDT   0 recs

it's not the K's per se

but half situational – there are specific times a K is worse than other outs, and what he does with the ABs that are not Ks.

What are the chances

That we get No hit today?

by AthleticsReign on Aug 6, 2008 5:07 PM PDT   0 recs

honestly, i think there is a 50% chance it happens.

got to factor in the crappy morale of the team into the equation, too.

The A's should start pitching rookies every game from now on...

Because that’s the ONLY thing stopping me from changing the channel.

This team is f*cking boring… and suck to boot!

Gio is Zito and Anderson is Mulder

Cahill is Hudson, and Gallagher is Harang. I’ve got it all figured out. I guess Duke is Heredia.

His "good velocity" is in comparison to other lefties

His curveball is his big out pitch. He’s not known for blowing away with his heat. He has a upper 80s/low 90s fastball, and that’s not bad for a lefty.

Greg Smith's major league debut:

At Toronto, 3-run HR in the first inning, settled down, went 6 IP, 2 hits, 3 ER.

Gio today: 3-run HR in the first inning, settled down, now 5 IP, 3 hits, 3 ER.

That second strike to Eckstein was key – came inside off the plate (fouled away). That’s what he needed to do with Barajas, or throw a changeup. He’ll get it.

Smith did not give up a bomb

It was 6 IP, 2 H, 2 ER (third run scored on an error).

Oh, and we scored 4 in the 9th in a come-back victory =)
