8/29 Minor Athletics
Cunningham is amazing. Buck is ready to go soon. In most of the future A's outfield predictions I have seen, it is Cunningham, Gonzalez, Sweeney or Brown. Where is Buck? How much stock do we put into the minor leaguers? Okay, here we go. I'm going to cut it off at KC tonight. I will try and continue tomorrow. Take care!

Not to shabby...Ryan Webb shows that he can pitch. He is still young, but he is basically done unless he can show more consistency.

Edit
I am attempting to edit this now, but it is not working, so I’ll put some notes in here.
Tyson Ross started for Kane County and performed pretty well. I’m a bit confused on why the A’s drafted him, especially with Sullivan (our first round draft pick in 03) having an injury history. Maybe I’m wrong, but it was a risky choice at the 2nd round.
Brett Hunter was promoted to KC and did not do well in his one inning. But he is in KC and they are going to the playoffs. He should be fun to watch
Vancouver won 7-4
Barfiled went hitless in 4 at bats
Dusty Coleman—I would love for this guy to be our SS simply because I want to hear “now batting, SS, Dusty Coleman.” He is also a very good player. He had two hits in the game. Both doubles and has lifted his average to .294
Ronny Moria— the youngster pitched well in his 3.2 innings of work. He K 6 and has 72 K in 70 innings.
I’m sorry for the post last night. I basically passed out in the middle of KC. The formatting is not working for some reason. I hope this works! Go A’s.
Why did the A's draft Tyson Ross?
Because the shitty-mechanics version of him is pumping out mid-90s fastballs already… he has the potential to hit high-90s if they can clean him up a bit.
He was a high-risk, high-upside selection. Most people thought he’d be off the board by the time the A’s picked.

Think Joba
Thats why the A’s drafted Ross. A pitcher with that type of potential if he can stay healthy. I’d rather the A’s draft more players like Ross than mediocre players that have no chance to be stars.

If Ross turns out somewhat like Joba
I think all A’s fans will be very, very pleased.
'Who's that guy we had to release last year because he robbed a bank?'- Billy Beane
Gio Gonzalez is my hero.
True
I understand the concept of high-risk, high-upside picks, but I am concerned about picks taken in the past that suggest that a second round pick should be one with less risk, especially with where the A’s were positioned. I hope that Ross develops into the pitcher that a lot imagine what he could be, but from experience, I believe a lot of A’s fans are nervous about that pick.
The A's have cushioned themselves from disappointment if Ross fails
They signed Capra who’s about as developed as he’s going to get, for him it’s about adding polish and learning what it takes to be a pro. They signed Hunter for $1.1 million, he’s a guy with 1st round talent that lasted until the 7th round because of an injury. They went out and dropped $4.25 million on Inoa, considered the best pitching prospect to come out of the Dominican in years.
If there’s one thing the A’s have is pitching depth. When you have depth its OK to take a chance on a guy like Ross.
The monster at the end of this blog.
capra/paramore
seem to be the 2 picks that stand out…not much upside, solid production
I'm a believer in Paramore
He’s a lot like Suzuki… a guy without ridiculous natural talent, but someone who plays above his talent because he’ll work his ass off and play smart ball. I was very impressed by his play in the CWS, even though he had a gimpy hamstring at the time.

Paramore has amazing defense
Most scouts say that his D is MLB ready right now, it’s just his offense that needs work.
Never, Never, NEVER give up
