Open Game Thread - Game 110: A's @ Red Sox (cont.)

Braden so far: not as good as Duke, not as bad as Eveland. A's offense so far: just as bad as ever. 1-0 Red Sox going to the top of the fourth.

I hate the Yankess more

anyone, but the more I think about it, the more I think I should hate the the Red Sox more than any other team. This weekend has given me pause, though. The YES guys are really good announcers, and call probably the least biased game in the league—they know their poop back to front, about their team, about the other team. Their fans, while somewhat arrogant, are gracious in defeat and are good-natured when they’re attempting to take over your ballpark. They’re actually kind when they realize your team sucks.

Conversely the Red Sox fans are obnoxious as all get-out. The announcers are painfully biased and know nothing about the other team. In fact, Remy’s accent is so thick, he sometimes is difficult to understand. The fans are completely obnoxious, completely overbearing, always in your face, and their horrible losers.

By process of elimination (the only process I endorse), I guess that makes you a piece of lamb. @('.')@

i think it was a mostly poor trade for everyone.

the Dodgers gave up too much value for a rental, the Pirates didn’t get enough for Bay (shoulda traded with Tampa Bay), and the Red Sox gave up quite a bit to get rid of the Manny headache.

I thought the Pirates made out pretty well for Bay

Moss, LaRoche, and Hansen isn’t a bad haul.

They’ll all start for PIT and 2 if not all 3 are def. Major League – ready.

At least its a relatively much better return than that awful Marte + Nady deal netted them.

Heck, we should’ve packaged Javier Herrera + Jared Lansford + Chris Denorfia and it would’ve been better deal for the ‘Bucs.

The Stockton Ports pitching staff is better than the Orioles.

Brignac should be a stud, I think Moss was someone that the prospect junkies were pretty high on the last couple of years but has seemed to fall off a bit.

Who wouldn’t want to raid that stocked T-Rays farm system, but I do think Pitt made out the best of the 3 teams, even though I really like Bay this was probably the best the mkt would allow.

How did a team which the last weekend before the break appeared to be in contention, have the bottom fall completely out? There have been historic collapses of Biblical proportions in baseball, but this year’s team has performed about as big a belly flop as I can remember from any A’s team.

Psychological?

Street’s meltdown the Sunday before the All-Star break convinced me this team wasn’t going anywhere. Harden’s trade probably convinced the A’s players they weren’t going anywhere. Not criticizing the trade, but when the thought finally sinks in that you’re season is gone, it must work on your head. The thing is, pretty much every other team not going anywhere is able to score more than two runs a game occasionally.

I need some feedback here.

I’m in the middle of growing my hair long. It’s at that annoying stage where it’s long, noticeably long, but not quite long enough to put in a pony tail and not look like some douche.

So, I’m thinking of going to the Target, getting a set of clippers and buzzing it all off. I need an AN consensus, here.

Like someone else said… to have anything worthwhile ya gotta suffer through the “in-between” phase to get there.

Is it annoying you because of how it looks, or how it feels?

Headband can be really great for getting it off your face and neck while going through that annoying in-between phase. It might look too girly for you to wear it in public, though.

Another good option is a bandanna. Any rectangle of material will do. If you have straight hair you’ll want to make sure it’s a material that isn’t too slippery. Tie it behind like it’s a blindfold, then push up past your face and onto your hair. Looks sort of like a do-rag.

Californians and their unfamiliarity with thunderstorms

are always amusing to me as a Midwesterner. We had a rare Bay Area one a few years ago when I was working late at the radio station, and someone called the newsroom line to ask what precautions they should take to avoid having their house hit by lightning.

by Englishmajor on Aug 3, 2008 12:48 PM PDT reply actions

Don't they have thunderstorms in California? Winter in San Francisco was pretty rainy as I recall.
