Open Thread: Game 133 - Twins at A's
Minnesota Twins at Oakland Athletics, Aug 28, 2008 7:05 PM PDT
Fresh off a completely unexpected series win in Anaheim this week, the A's are at it again a day later, taking on the Minnesota Twins tonight in Oakland.
Taking the mound for the green and gold tonight will be Dana Eveland, mentioned positively in the Wolff interview, and looking to repeat his excellent performace last week against Seattle. Eveland spent a couple of weeks in the minors recently, working on his windup, and he is hoping that the effort will pay off again tonight.
The A's "offense" will be facing RHP Nick Blackburn, who is looking to continue the Twins' push for the AL Central lead. They are just a game out, and very much in the hunt. In other words, they will be playing hard.
That won't be a problem for our fearless crew, as the A's audition for the role of spoiler tonight. Late breaking news shows Carlos Gonzalez actually back at AAA and Sweeney, R reactivated.
LET'S GO OAK-LAND!

Not a fan of this move only because we are so close to the call-ups. I think this could further damage the little bit of confidence he has left. I guess it’s understandable but I’m not on board.

I think it's more about giving him a quieter stage
to get his swing and confidence back. It seemed to help Eveland to have a handful of AAA games to work on some refinements away from the microscope.

What I find funny is that...
all of this change (that both sides want) is going to come so easily. It’s just a matter of getting this guy or that guy in office… then as soon as they get there we get the "well we can’t just change things. We have to build coalitions and listen to interest groups.
Anyway… I’m done…

Do you see a reasonable scenario between A's fans needs and
ownership’s wants? Wolff has a great point about inelasticity but A’s fans complain about closing the 3rd deck. I find myself on the side of ownership in regards to “if we put out a winner than more fans should come.” Not sure I can comprehend fans that complain about the A’s moving when the gates don’t show that they care enough.

I got thinking about the "tarp" at the Oakland Coli today
Tarps have a connotation of “in storage” and “cover it, it is unsightly”. Basically, a negative visual unless you’re attempting to keep something dry, out of the rain.
And also, a tarp over your vehicle when you cannot afford a proper building to house it in.
Oakland Coli should re-think this.

I hate unproductive outs and the A's are producing them at record production

Zook Suit!
Love it…………….ya know, you would think that opposing managers would learn to stop pitching to Suzuki when he comes in as a pinch hitter. Or at the very least in the Twins case, Gardenhire should have brought in Joe Nathan in a situation like that one.
I mean, no disrespect to our ballclub, but we’re not the team in a pennant race, the Twinkies are and every game to them is crucial so I"m not sure why RG did not have his best guy out there tonight in the 9th.
Totally stoked we won, though….Go A’s!

Zook Suit Riot!
He has three walk-off hits this season.
He’s like a Scutaro that can start on the field and not off the bench.

I think Gardenhire's plan WAS to walk Suzuki,
but they needed to get Emil Brown out to do that. They could have walked Brown intentionally to set up the DP but I think they preferred to pitch to Brown and Patterson instead of Suzuki (and Patterson).
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

But.......
my original point was: Why did RG not have Joe Nathan in the game in the first place? Was it just that he was not available? Or was it just blown strategy?

Woah, what the hell happened?
This is what I get for walking away for 10 minutes.

A good game to watch tonight
Lots of defensive gems and boy did Crosby’s double look like it was gonna be a ding-dong! He’s quietly having a decent season and I hope that is a sign of more good things to come for him. I also just noticed that Sweeney came off the DL and Jaguar Paw was sent back to Sactown.
Interesting…………..

RECAP UP!
I had to stray away from the “A’s Lose Again” template. It was nice!!
So, bring on Bonds! Or, not... then, bring back Langerhans!! -One won lost one
