Open Thread: Game 132 - A's at Angels (Cont.)

Rajai Davis made his impact known in the first at bat of the game, lining a single of Joe Saunders' hand, and quickly following with a stolen base. Whether rattled or bruised, Saunders never really recovered, giving up a run in the first, and a glorious five-spot in the second, including a two-run double by Bobby "All he does is hit doubles" Crosby and a two-run tater by Emil "I am a born 3rd place hitter" Brown.

Now up 6-0 in the bottom of the 4th, the A's are looking to add on, while Gio Gonzalez quietly goes about his business, keeping the Angels offense off the board, with only a single hit.

Shhh - don't disturb the mojo!  *quiet* go a's */quiet*

Gio's glove is pretty cool

Ryan Sweeney: I probably irrationally embraced him before you did.

Wow, nice, Emil.

Now would be a good time

for a visit to the mound.

Be lucky to make it thru 4 innings

Nice to learn on the job but the poor kid is learning way before he’s ready.

This is terrific managing, IMO

Instead of going to a long-reliever (Saarloos), Geren is treating it like this inning is “the inning” and going for immediate damage control – actually my choice would have been Ziggy, which is why I don’t like him closing. But Embree can go 2 IP, and if he’s on his game can diffuse the rally.

Saarloos is the best way to lose this game.

Much rather see Gio than Saarloos.

I see the future. I see cake.

Agreed. We're not used to it.

Or he could light a fuse

and toss it into the Angels dugout and blow their team up.

After he gets the 3 outs that is

Something is wrong with this thread, clearly...

Darn AN 3.0. That’s what’s behind this…

No doubt the right move for the win...

but is it the right move for Gio?

The 2009 A's draft pick... getting higher every game.

by rebus on Aug 27, 2008 8:41 PM PDT   0 recs

Oh, and what does it say about Emil Brown

that he has a HR and 3 RBI tonight and I can’t wait to get rid of him? Something about an ill-advised dive and then walking over to retrieve the ball.

There's nothing

And then there is a huge thread.

ok, so it's not just me. that's good

They show up in bunches, which in any other thread would be ok. But not good for the immediate reaction.

Just saw that Embree is replacing Embree on gameday.

Why is Embree pitching the 4th?

I left to eat dinner and all was well. What happened to Gio?

Embree being Embree.

Wow. The guy really is having an “odd” year.

Looking forward to Spring Training and the hope of another World Series title.

by ohtobe21likehuston on Aug 27, 2008 8:52 PM PDT   0 recs

Unfortunately, it looks like he will retire

So no draft choice as compensation. And I don’t see how any contender could possibly be interested at this point, though you never know. You have four days, BB.

by Soaker on Aug 27, 2008 8:54 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm afraid that ship has sailed. I sure hope we didn't pass up on anything

that could have turned into something better than Old Embree.
