Both are gone to the N.L. and thus are hard to get excited about anymore.

I've always enjoyed rooting for former A's players.
Depending on the circumstances, of course. Some, i.e. Giambi, pissed me off and I never liked him afterward.

I'm always fascinated by seeing Harden pitch
I keep expecting him to fall apart in front of our very eyes.

i have this kind of uneasy feeling
that maybe this time, he’s gonna stay healthy for the long-haul, what with the changes in what he pitches, and what with his distance from the oakland trainers room.

how has his pitch repertoire changed since he was traded?
Fastball/change before, fastball/change after.

IIRC, pretty much all season
Didn’t keep him from hitting the DL again this year.

never gets old. And DAMN! does he look good these days. I’m very happy for him.

I CANNOT wait for this.
It’s a huge series for the Phils (every game will be an important game for the Phils here on out, seeing as they’re .5 game out)… pressure’s on Blanton.
I will definitely see y’all at BCB, I run the King Rich K Tracker over there for all his starts. (Derived from the one we used to use here… thanks AN! I do always give credit for it.)

Nice
…. But who would you take in the Cage Match???
In the Blue Corner: Dickie Harden
In the Red Corner: Cupcakes Blanton
In the Green Corner: Mister GallagherDonaldsonMurtonPattersonCardenasSpencerOutman

i dont understand
all the Red Corner has to do is roll to the right, suffocating the Green Corner, and then ask the Blue Corner to throw in the towel, causing an oblique strain, and he wins.

Ooooh, fun.
I hope it’s on WGN. I watched a bit of Blanton’s start on ESPN on Sunday (I don’t remember the last time the A’s were on Sunday Night Baseball, so it had been a while since I had to listen to Joe Morgan) and he struggled through the first inning, kept wiping his brow after every pitch. And those red unis? Meh. Not a fan. But anyway, I always love seeing Rich. Should be fun.

I would have enjoyed seeing that game or at least listening to it on MLB radio.
But…I will be at the A’s game so I will read the thread when I get home. I hope someone makes one here on AN.

It's a day game...
… the A’s game is tonight, so you can listen to it at 1:20 pm CDT.

Expect some visits from Cubs fans later this morning.
I’m going to link this FanShot in my game thread which will post at 11:30 am CDT.

MLB.com article: Harden eager to face friend Blanton
What are the buddies looking forward to the most in Friday’s game? It’s not pitching.
“I’m pretty excited to get a chance to hit against him,” said Harden, who is 1-for-15 since switching leagues. “I’m not much of a hitter right now. I hope he challenges me, comes at me with his fastball.”
Harden on Blanton: “He’s probably one of my favorite teammates, just a great guy… One of the hardest working guys that I’ve seen in baseball my whole career.”
Blanton on Harden: “He’s an unbelievable athlete and on top of that, he’s a good pitcher with a lot of talent. … He’s an unbelievably hard worker and he’s got a good work ethic, works hard to keep himself healthy.”

A few more tidbits over on the Phillies site...
Blanton, fellow ex-Athletic Harden meet
“I like Joe,” Harden said. “He’s probably one of my favorite teammates. It’s always fun pitching against guys I used to play with. I’m really happy for Joe. I wish him the best, but playing against him is tough. You want to see him do well, but at the same time you want to win.”
Blanton and Harden stood behind the batting cage for what seemed like hours Thursday afternoon, catching up….

WGN America Has Posted Cubs Schedule
Today’s game is not on WGN America (the national version of WGN that is on satellite and cable systems outside the Midwest). Search for “WGN America” in Google and click on “Cubs Schedule” to find future games.

No Win For Harden
He’s been lifted for a pinch-hitter. Given the Cubs great record of comebacks from behind this season, it’s a shame he had to come out during the current rally.

Rich's line:
5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K (100 pitches).
And Cupcakes: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K — pitching in the 6th and just walked back-to-back Cubs to lead off the inning.
Hmm, are there any other ex-A’s pitchers on the Phillies that can come in to relieve Joe? It just seems necessary.

I watched part of the game...
…and it was interesting, if unspectacular. Harden didn’t seem to have his best stuff. Especially in the 2nd inning, a couple 3-2 counts, walks, etc.
The announcers did play up the A’s connection, though.
