Going to New York in September
I seem to recall that at least a few the AN faithful were planning trips to New York this year. We will be going in September, and I am looking to book a room for a reasonable price. From what I've seen on line, there's a wide range of places to stay. I would appreciate any feedback there might be from ANers that traveled to New York this year. We are going to Cooperstown on September 11th, and will then drive into the city to attend games on the 12th & 13th. Is it worth the savings to stay in New Jersey? Any insights you may have will be appreciated.

well I got lots of advice
but first, which stadium are you going? I think you’d get more savings by ditching the car and using public transportation. Driving and parking in NYC is a pain, and if you stay in Jersey you gotta deal with all that and tolls. I wouldn’t recommend staying in the Bronx but you could probably stay in Flushing for a reasonable cost if going to Shea Stadium

We are going to both parks . . .
Shea on Friday night and Yankee Stadium on Saturday. We are just using the car for the drive from Cooperstown into the city, and then returning it to the airport. I thought Flushing would be a better place to stay, but it’s nice to hear you think the same.

You can stay in Queens
If the hotel rates in Manhattan scares you, you can always find motels in Queens. In Long Island city where I live, motels/inns have been cropping up but don’t expect too much amenities. If you book early, it is like $20-$30 per night. LIC is just 10 minutes across the bridge from midtown Manhattan.
There is a Sheraton in Flushing but I’m nore sure about the rates.

We went to the A's Yankees series in July.
We stayed at the Amsterdam Court Hotel. It is the one located on West 50th. It wasn’t the best but it was not a dive either. It was close to Broadway and touristy fun stuff. We took the subway to the games…it was easy …but hot. The fans were not unpleasant to us even though we were wearing A’s gear. We even went to the famous bowling alley before the game…and people there were nice too.
My daughter travels often to NY. She said the best Manhattan hotel to stay at that is relatively cheap is the Milford Plaza. It has minuscule rooms but is clean and well located. I have never stayed there. We have always stayed at the Sofitel on other trips…but it’s fairly pricey. Have a great time in NY …we sure did!
