Ziggy in the news
Ziegler’s route to the majors was tortuous, but he’s been wondrous since"
Joe Posnanski, in the Kansas City Star writes a good story about Brad. It is nothing we don't already know about, I am glad to see Ziggy getting some attention.
"Ziegler sounds a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing. He credits his teammates. (“I’m not a strikeout pitcher, so they have to be really good behind me.”) He credits his family for helping him stick with this crazy game. And, this is funny, he says that he hopes Oakland won’t send him down when a couple of other pitchers come off the disabled list.
“I’ve learned,” he says, “that you never know what will happen in baseball.”
And that is really true in Oakland. Go A's!

I wonder what the A's will do when Foulke is eligible to come back, there is only
1 garbage reliever left in the pen, and that is Dinardo, but without him there is no long man. I hope they don’t send Blevins back down. They might be able to get a waiver trade with Embree I hope.

They might be able to move Foulke, too
They won’t get much, or anything for him, but I’m sure a team with some bullpen issues would take a flier on him.

Or they could drop him
This team is not really in need of Keith Foulke.

That's true
Same goes for Embree, except he makes more money.

they could just waint until september rolls around and the rosters expand ...
or tell Foulke to meet them on the next road trip to Tokyo …
I don’t think Keith Foulke is a particularly relevant part of the team at this point..

Everybody goes on the waiver wire
most pass, then you can trade them easily, happens every year. Probably Embree and Foulke will get traded. I like the bullpen with Devine, Blevins, Ziegler,
Brown and Casilla.

On the last day of May, Ziegler entered the game in the eighth inning against the Texas Rangers. There were two outs, a man on third. The A’s were more or less out of it at the time, they were down 7-4, so it probably did not feel like a pressure to situation to anyone but the 28-year-old submarine pitcher on the mound.
We’re we really that out if it by then? Now sure, but then?

Out of it means out of the game, not out of the season?
Maybe?

Nice
The double play ratio…I knew he was getting a lot (helped a bunch by his last two games) but I had no idea about the ratio.
Amusing stuff about bunting, too:
Given his unique profile, Ziegler deserves a unique approach. Violating every sabermetric tenet known to man, I would argue that the best approach is this: bunt at every opportunity. If the leadoff batter gets aboard somehow—maybe he legs out an infield single—bunt him over, which keeps you out of a double-play situation and allows you to drive the runner home with a single, which is the most you’ll get off Ziegler anyway. That’s exactly what the Royals did today in the eighth inning. Mike Aviles beat out a grounder, and Mitch Maier bunted him over. Ziegler abhors a vacuum at first base, so naturally, he intentionally walked Alex Gordon—and Jose Guillen complied with the 6-4-3. Back to the drawing board.
