I Know This Sounds Awful, but.....
......I plan on booing Gallagher and Murton if they get off to rocky starts in Oakland. I'm not going to cut Billy Beane much slack on this one and I hope other fans follow suit. We'd better see these guys look good from the start. I live in Sacramento so I'll see Murton here first and he better look like a good player or I'll boo him at Raley Field. I've never booed an A's player before (well maybe Billy Koch when he gave up that home run to the Twins during the 2002 playoffs, but hey, everyone did).

looking forward to friday
Hopefully Gallagher throws a gem and there’s tons of “OMG,Billy’s a genious!” posts on AN.

You won't have to boo....
Your going to like Gallagher. He is a fine young pitcher. Billy Beane is no fool and this trade will yield good results for both teams. I’ve seen comments on both sides who think this trade was one-sided, but I disagree. I think the Cubs will see results quicker from this deal, but that was the goal of the Cubs where the A’s (who I really like a lot, and think is a coming powerhouse in the AL) will see more results starting next year. Gallagher is a tough, solid pitcher who has made great progress this year and I for one am sad to see him go. He will prove to be a very solid pitcher with the A’s. In the end, I think this will prove to be a win-win trade for both clubs and that would be a blessing for both organizations and fans.

thank you.
that was well thought out.
people usually don’t do too much thinking around here when a starter gets traded. They just start popping pills and jabbering on about how we’re all gonna die!

The reason it sounds awful:
It is awful.
It’ll be an adjustment to AL for him, and I’d be shocked if he doesn’t struggle out of the box. That won’t be what makes the trade bad.

It’ll be the best trade ever.

hmm
I am NOT content in this deal. Rich AND Chad doesn’t make sense BUT I won’t go booing them. I am going to wait a bit and see what Gallagher has in him. He’s another very young pitcher and with a little help from their A’s trainers and whatnot I think he might surprise us and turn into a pitcher we are happy to have. Got to give the kid a chance

"I'm not going to cut Billy Beane much slack on this one "
I’m sure Billy will be crushed. Could you really not think of another way to express your displeasure with the GM than to boo a couple of players who didn’t even ask to come to the team and are just trying to do their jobs?

Doesn't make it right.
I’m a big fan of booing players, but not because someone else chose to trade them.
It’s not like they had a say.
Go boo Beane. He’s a big man. He’ll take it.
If you’re big enough to deliver it without 15,000 other people as cover.

They weren't responsible.
Honestly, I’m just not going to go to the games when Gallagher starts. I just can’t do it.
But booing them? That just seems mean. Now, if you run into BB…

The truly idiotic part, IMO,
is that the only impact booing them could have would be to demoralize them and cause them to perform worse, while supporting and encouraging them would have the opposite effect. So to the microscopic level that a single fan can theoretically impact a team’s success, you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. Brilliant.

And your explanation for the Red Sox?
Their fans are exactly the same. I’m not a big fan of booing for the sake of booing, but the whole “it just hurts the team” theory is complete nonsense.

Alright
OK, I’ll admit that I was a little hasty in making these comments. Just for a little context, I was just sour about the trade after spending an evening of hanging out with my buddy from Chicago who was going on and on about the trade and I was just feeling a little burned. I deserved all of the negative comments that people directed at me, though I appreciate the people that stuck up for me. The truth is, it’ll probably be a long time before we can tell if this trade works out. All I’m hoping for is that these guys work out. I’ll be at the Coliseum on Friday night cheering Gallagher on. OK? Is everyone happy now?

If you're gonna boo anybody on the RiverCats,
you should boo DiNardo because he doesn’t practice his guitar enough during the season.

From a Cubs fan..
First off thanks for Rich I hope he helps us out. Now to Sean and Matt, you will like them here. Sean is a tough pitcher and will serve you well. Matt will stumble along the way but has HUGE power and with the right help can be great in left or right. He will need some guidence but will be very well worth the money and time to spend on him. Eric P wasnt in the majors long but does have speed and thats always a tool you can use. The other guy I know nothing about. You did get 2 potential All-stars and couple good players for either future trades or long term help. Thanks again!!

Maybe we can replace Davis with Patterson (who seems much more competent)
Do we know how they compare as Pinch Runners? I’ve heard Patterson is a bad defensive 2B, but is he good in the outfield?
