Foulke to the DL
Just read that Keith Foulke (Kieth Folke) has been placed on the DL with what is called "right shoulder inflammation".
Jerry Blevins has been re-called from Sac-Town to take his spot in the pen. Personally I like this choice over Braden and/or DiNardo. With Embree struggling a bit of late it would be nice to see someone new step in and fill the void a bit. Blevins is 2-2 w/ a 2.78 ERA (10 saves.)

Is Blevins going to make it to Chi-town in time for todays game?

Probably
This decision was probably made last night, or early this morning.

I like Blevins - my reasoning for Braden or DiNardo
wasn’t that I thought they were better, but that their presence would allow Gaudin to be used more freely as a short reliever.
So in essence we’re choosing between Braden and Gaudin, or Blevins.
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

Gotcha
Good point. I would also like to see Gaudin play a bigger role in the pen, It is a shame a talented pitcher like that has been reduced to the mop up role lately.

Also, DiNardo isn't on the 40 man, so that would require an additional roster move
Though I suspect Chavvy will be on the 60-Day DL before long. Mike Sweeney might be, too.

Foulke might be, too
If Blevins performs. Or he might just get waived, no?

Blevins has options
Saarloos and DiNardo do not, which gives Beane/Forst a freer hand if a trade circumstance arises in the next couple of weeks.

Well now we know why Foulke was looking so done
(assuming, of course, that it’s a real injury)
by nevermoor on Jul 4, 2008 9:46 PM PDT 0 recs
He was looking done before he started giving up bombs -
In fact, he was looking done around 2005. When your main out-pitch is a 77 MPH changeup, you need to top out at more than 85 MPH.

Not to be snippy, but
That 2.74 ERA he had on the 15th wasn’t exactly an eyesore.

No, but it WAS a coincidence
judging by his FIP.

An 8 mph difference between fastball and changeup actually can be effective
That sort of thing has worked for guys like Maddux and Moyer for years.

Maddux had tremendous movement on his fastball,
and Moyer is, well, a nature of freak!

Home land security will be looking for him soon if he dont stop giving up bombs
You got to think that against some kind of law or something

Crosby to follow Foulke to DL?
according to the SF Chron
Crosby to DL? Bobby Crosby could be the next A’s player headed to the DL. The shortstop tested his strained left hamstring in batting practice and didn’t feel right, and Geren said a move could come as early as today.

It could be a R. Sweeney situation
where even if Crosby could be back in a few days the A’s just can’t afford to be so short-handed. Right now, if Murphy got hurt you would have to use an infield of Bankston at 3B and Hannahan at SS. I think running with Petit instead of Crosby from now to the ASB is better than spending half that time so…hamstrung?
