My Kingdom for a Hitter
Yuck, the A's are becoming unwatchable at this point. With all the trades the magic Beane has made why can't he add a major league ready slugger? With the Giants on the downside the time is right to eat into the fanbase but not with this bunch.
The answer seems simple enough and that's spend some freakin' money and get a straw that can stir this tepid drink. I know alot of you fans have drank the kool-aid and think every thing the magic Beane does is golden but I ask you this. Do you really think this thing is on the right track?
It seems all the A's do is trade pitching for more pitching and minor league second basemen. The truly great A's teams have always had power hitters and right now outside of strikeout machine Jack Cust there isn't one to be seen anywhere. I'm going to go feed my dog now.

If you're ten days old here, how do you know who's drinking the Kool-Aid and who's not?
The offense is bad. We know this.
What’s your solution? Who should they get? Present some ideas.

And what exactly do you present to this dilemma?
.......
Great suggestions! Love your ideas about the subject. While feeding your dog, take a look at what is being done right now, think why, do some research (which big bat should they plunk a lot of $ to, and what effect would that have)?- think about the effect part, a lot.

in all honesty this team has no business being anywhere close to contending for even the wild card this year.

Oakland A's 2008 101
Real simple here.
Last year we sucked, mostly due to major injury problems, but we sucked.
Coming into this year, instead of trying to compete, we traded for prospects because it is cheaper and more prudent to suck with prospects with potential than to suck with high priced players. It’s called rebuilding. All teams do it, some just have more money and can do it faster and with Free Agents. We can’t. OAKLAND A’s not NEW YORK A’s. Anyway, this team of ragtag players and prospects ended up actually overachieving thus giving people hope. THEN, when we came back to earth, we the “Magic Beane” continued the rebuilding process. And I think you would be hard pressed to find a media outlet that has said we got hosed on any deal the “Magic Beane” has made.
So, in review: We are rebuilding. We are not going to add a bat and all of a sudden be in contention.
Stick to feeding your dog and the “Magic Beane” will continue to work with limited resources to pull a WS out of his magic ass here hopefully soon.

Done feeding my dog
Boy aren’t we thin- skinned. As far as who the A’s should get since I’m such a idiot I don’t know, here’s a couple of names though. Holliday or Teixeira. The Rockies seem to want to make a move and the A’s have made trades with the Braves in the past.
One last thing, lighten up people it’s only a game. Since I’m done walking my dog I’m going to go make some kool-aid who wants some?

Yeah, let's trade away our good young pitching and talent that we've just spend years building
For a rental hitter. And we must apparently be one hitter away from winning the whole thing. Right.

This seems like one of those fans you hear on sports talk radio. “If Beane is such a genious, how come he did this, how come he didnt do this.” Its easy for you to sit home on ur ass and say well he needs to get a guy who can hit a 50 hr guy.

I'm all for attacking bad posts
but the standard is, by no means, that every sentence is perfect (or, as monkeyball pointed out, that every sentence ends in a period).
If people put some effort into their posts, I would hope we can focus on their ideas. gillyball, for example, makes a good point. There aren’t a lot of 50 HR guys in baseball (or, for that matter, baseball history). You can’t just get a stud hitter by wishing for one.
I think the original FanPost is foolish, and have the same basic reaction as gillyball did. At the very least you should respond to his content if you’re going to hold him to an unreasonably high language standard.

Don't rent, buy
I’m saying trade for these hitters and then sign them to long term contracts. The A’s need to build around a core of good players. I think the magic Beane has gotten the pitching, now add some hitting. As my last post proved I wasn’t an english major either.
History, and I only made it through on my good looks and charm.
by briandouglas on Jul 20, 2008 3:40 PM PDT 0 recs
...or, you could WAIT until they are ACTUALLY free agents
and sign them then, while giving up no prospects.
Hm. That’s a tough one.

If your major was History
that seems ironic, because you don’t seem to know very much about the history of either the Oakland Athletics in general, or Billy Beane’s tenure with the team specifically. Why don’t you spend some time on this blog reading, and trying to educate yourself before you publish such blathering idiotic posts. Your peers would appreciate it, and the quality of this blog would not be degraded with such useless garbage. Why don’t you save this type of expression for a comment on an existing fanpost?

What are you talking about dude
Most hitters on the market are free agents at the end of this year. Only adding one more bat would not put us back in contention this year. Why would we ever do that? The goal is to compete the next five to six years not this year. We’ve known that from opening day.

Dude, get real
If you know anything about this site, then you know it is for FANS of the A’s. Lacing your posting with “Magic Beane” is not going to earn you any accolades. Making silly statements such as “spend some freakin’ money” is hardly an insight worthy of a fanpost. Top it off with a sweep at the hands of the Yankees today and you become the target of angst and frustration. It was a dumb posting and you should stick to making comments until you have something more profound….or less stupid

You are not a moron. You are merely sharing your viewpoint. In the future, just write it out on a piece of paper, leave it out for a bit, come back, and if it is covered in flies, it is shit and should not be posted.
Seriously though, we need more help than a hitter this year, hence the rebuild. Be patient. At the rate the Beane is dealing, we are going to have a great run….soon.

I might agree with you, but the original poster
started the attacks and the mockery first:
I know alot of you fans have drank the kool-aid and think every thing the magic Beane does is golden but I ask you this.
Most people don’t like being called kool-aid drinkers. That is a tried and true trolling tactic. If a poster can’t take mockery, then he should restrain him / her self from using it.
Also, a poster who can’t take criticism / debate / argument probably shouldn’t be coming to a community blog. Start a personal blog.

I am wondering if there was something the A's brass didn't like about him, when they

Nelson Cruz
is a talented prospect who just needs a chance. He would definitely look good in Right field for us with Sweeney going to left. However, I would hate for the A’s to have to give the Rangers one of their stud pitchers to get him. Which is what they’d want.
