Open Thread: Game 84 - A's at Angels (cont)

Well, once again, the bullpen ruins a perfectly nice A's 3-2 lead, as Foulke becomes today's goat. But hey, at least the game stayed tied at 3 this time. Oh, no it totally didn't because Foulke did the SAME THING as Embree last night, giving up a two-run homerun to follow the blown save (I won't tell you it was Rivera's first homerun of the year).

But unlike last night, the A's have three innings to get back on the board.

This game is EXACTLY the situation

I described a few days ago where Gaudin should pitch 2-3 innings. Eveland goes 5.2 IP, A’s lead, you can go to someone also worthy of the rotation and who’s fresh, instead of squeezing outs from a series of flawed pitchers.

Ziggy 3 IP yesterday when he’s on a roll, and Gaudin today, and we may well sweep the series.

I totally agree. These games just may be looked at as a turning point for the worse

The poor decisions by the manager to take out guys who were doing pretty well COMBINED with the poor 3rd base coaching on Saturday has cost this team some very crucial games.

OUR TEAM IS SEVERELY SHORTHANDED IN THE LINE-UP RIGHT NOW. THE TEAM CANNOT AFFORD POOR MANAGEMENT AND COACHING.

Have been Geren’s biggest downfall this year, especially with Embree pitching to RH batters. You’re absolutely right Blez. Eveland should have faced Kotchman.

Everyone keeps saying bring in Gaudin.

He would’ve been better than Foulke no doubt today, and Embree last night. But over the long haul we can’t just keep saying use Gaudin (although that may never be the problem if Geren doesn’t use him). The guy can’t come in every single night. We need some help in that bullpen. If Casilla is healthy he’s about the only other guy we can have confidence in the pen. I wonder if Taylor Buchholz might be available???

Cust is hanging on

by a thread. The league has figured him out. The power “threat” prevents pitchers from grooving anything against him-so they nibble. Sometimes they win (league K leader) and sometimes they lose (league BB leader)-but the bottom is he K’s alot more than he W’s.

Everything looks nicer when you win. The girls are prettier. The cigars taste better. The trees are greener. Billy Martin

I am thinking of that terrible series in Minnesota after the ASB after that we never got above .500.

Very scary similarities.

I WILL ALSO SAY THAT THERE WERE SOME POOR PERSONNEL CHOICES AROUND JUNE/ EARLY JULY THAT HASTENED THAT DECLINE. (not bringing Piazza back when he was available, Bradley)

I think the decision not to bring in a hitter over the last few weeks will be much debated.

Time to start thinking about

Selling—not buying.

Much like injuries influenced Bean's decision to dump in the offseason

Funny Story about C-Gone:

I got his autograph on Amelia’s ball last week and I let him know that he is my wife’s favorite player. the girl that was riding with him answered in a caddy way, “He’s my favorite too!!”.

The kid may need Micky Morabito to find him a NON Chavy wife #1 type…I’m just sayin’
