Crosby Reinstated; DiNardo Up

Press Release

Star-divide

OAKLAND -- The Oakland A's today reinstated shortstop Bobby Crosby from the 15-day disabled list and selected left-handed pitcher Lenny DiNardo from Triple-A Sacramento. The A's optioned infielder Gregorio Petit to Sacramento yesterday.

Crosby was placed on the disabled list on July 5 retroactive to July 3 with a strained left hamstring. He was batting .260 with four home runs and 38 RBI before the injury and had started each of the A's first 84 games, the longest consecutive games started streak of his career. It was Crosby's sixth career stint on the DL and he has missed a total of 205 games due to injuries over the last four seasons.

DiNardo joins the A's for the third time this year and is 1-1 with a 10.24 ERA in five games, two starts, with Oakland. Posted a 3-2 record and 3.19 ERA (11 er in 31.1 ip) in seven starts with Triple-A Sacramento since being designated for assignment on May 30 and outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on June 3. DiNardo was on the A's Opening Day roster and appeared in four games before he was optioned to Sacramento on April 26. He went 3-1 with a 5.25 ERA in four starts for the River Cats before returning to Oakland on May 20. He pitched just once following his return, allowing two runs in 2.0 innings on May 29 against Toronto.

Petit was recalled from Sacramento on July 5 for his second stint with the A's this year and went 2 for 5 (.400) in two starts at shortstop. He was previously with the club from May 16 to June 19 and hit .333 in 10 games during his first stint for a .348 batting average overall. Petit is batting .304 with no home runs and 18 RBI in 49 games with Sacramento.

yuck.

I’d rather have seen Meyer get one final chance than DiNardo… and I’m not even one who’s chompin’ at the bit to see Gio yet…

Giambi was safe at the plate!!!!

Can we give Lenny a white towel

and have him ceremoniously throw it in?

A's website has Eveland starting both

next Monday and next Tuesday (burn em out quick, huh?) I imagine DiNardo gets one of those starts.

Braden, not DiNardo (methinks)

Very disappointing about DiNardo.

Not the worst thing in the world

‘Sides, I’d like to see DiNardo’s arm soaking up all of these upcoming meaningless innings rather than one of the young kids. For now, at least. I’d like to see Gio, and maybe Braden, too, get some more MLB seasoning near the end of the year.

Ryan Sweeney: I probably irrationally embraced him before you did.

That's truly strange.

I expected them to go with Braden instead of Gio (who I wanted). I guess the idea is that nobody who has a future with the A’s accumulates any service time. That, or Billy reads this site and makes little moves like this just to f^&k with us.

My guess is that the A's don't feel Gio is

quite ready yet, so DiNardo gets the “innings-eating” call for a few starts, and if the AAA coaches say “Gio’s ready,” he’ll be called up any time and DiNardo returned to Sacramento.

It could just be that Geren wanted another Lefty

outta the pen to face a lefty heavy NYY team.

Lenny has done better than Gio and Braden in AAA this year,

so it may be as simple as that.

I expect him to do better than Blanton would have

People keep saying things like that

but when DiNardo was available on waivers not a single team thought he was worth a spot on their roster, whereas we just picked up a couple of pretty good prospects for Blanton.

I honestly think there's something wrong with Joe

Whether it’s arm-related, conditioning-related, or mental …

Yes, DiNardo’s not really any good, and he doesn’t have Joe’s established performance level. But Joe’s ratcheted his performance level down a notch, and he hasn’t done anything that I’ve seen to correct it.

He hasnt been better than Gio.

if we’re looking at gio’s entire year, he probably has.
if anything a case could be made braden has pitched better than dinardo in AAA this year, i’d say he has.

Only thing really going for DiNardo is

his GO/AO ratio. Batters are hitting .315 off him and hes given up 70 Hits in 55 innings. Braden has def pitched better than DiNardo.

yeah i'd much rather have braden join the rotation than dinardo

I do no think this says much in regard to who will start in the rotation

It very well could still be Gio Gonzalez. Infact, I would say that its still most likely.

I expected a move like this to be honest. Gio won’t be “called up” till the day of his start if he gets the call. In the meanwhile, they’ll use the roster spot for some relief insurance.

Though to be honest, I’d rather they have kept Petit on the roster than purchase DiNardo from AAA and put him back on the 40.

Geren just said it will be Braden starting at Tampa

following Smith, Gallagher, Duke, Eveland. So there you have it.

good

I still think Braden has really quality stuff, and will one day, if maybe not with the A’s, become a good major league starter.

He's got a quality changeup

The rest of it…

I agree with the overall sentiment of wanting him in the rotation over DiNardo, though.

He may be a quality pitcher in the bigs...

but his future is as a reliever, not a starter. That’s one of the many reasons I prefer Gio to start.

So me saying Geren just wanted another lefty in

the pen for a lefty heavy Yankee team

so the starters for the Tampa Bay series

will be Eveland, Braden, and Smith pp all lefties.

Make up your mind -

is it a “pp” or just a dribble?
