L.A. Dodgers Closer Takashi Saito out 6 weeks +......

Could they be looking at Huston Street to fill their closer vacancy?
I know that they are gonna be looking for a closer, with Jonathan Broxton as their only option to turn to. Even if he could close, the Dodgers would then lack that crucial set-up man that Broxton has been good at playing. So, given the current market right now, and with Ned Coletti owing us from the Loaiza deal last year, I think we could get a decent return on Street and maybe combine him with Blanton since Penny is on the DL, Schmidt doesn't look like he's returning, and they are losing faith in Kershaw, who they sent back down to Double AA. Beane should strike while the iron is hot! We can get LaRoche and depending on how down they are on Kershaw, him as well. The Dodgers are also looking for a shortstop. Bobby Crosby maybe? Move Ellis to short, sign him to an extension and see what Patterson can do at second. You'd then have LaRoche, Ellis, Patterson and Barton/Bankston/Hannahan at first. Does anyone know what kind of prospects the Dodgers have for a possible return on a Street deal, Blanton and Crosby deals?

perfect opportunity to dump Huston...
do it, Billy. Take whatever they’re willing to give up. Hell, throw in Blanton and Crosby, too. Why not? Make ‘em back up the truck, though. Don’t sell Huston cheap. ;-)

Ellis can't play Short
After the Arm injury, he can only play 2nd. He no longer has the arm stregnth to play SS. Hell, it was a “miracle” (said by the doctors themselves) that he managed to play ball again.
If we traded Crosby, we’d probably replace him with either Donnie Murphy, Gregorio Petit or Cliff Pennington. Personally, I don’t want Murphy starting anymore, as he’s proven he isn’t up to it right now, and if we’re gunna have a no hit SS, we might as well have a great glove SS in Petit or even a Pinch Running SS like Cliffy.
But I actually could see is dealing Blanton, Street and Crosby to the Dodgers, but what package could we get back?
LaRoche, DeJesus, Elbert, McDonald would be a nice package.

I hear he's a real LaRochebag

There is no way the Dodgers take all three of those guys
That would bump up their payroll for next year by $15 million. And not to much effect, either.
Best hope for just one of them to be dealt, I think.

its just that they are in the market for a Starter, a SS and a Closer anyways
so why not?

How are they in the market for a starter?
They already have 832468916 starters on their 40-man roster. And their offense is the problem, not their pitching.

I disagree
it fills three needs for them, and they have a coach and GM partial 2 vets. all 3 are cost controlled

....and they are losing faith in Kershaw, ....and depending on how down they are on Kershaw, him as well.
Never happen.

Who says LA owes us for Loiaza? That trade looks like it’s turning out to be a great trade for Oakland!

exactly!
they did us a favor by taking on Loiaza’s contract.

they have a loaded bullpen
They can handle losing Saito pretty easily. I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
Broxton's been their closer in waiting for awhile now...
they don’t need Street!

I just heard on 1st and 10
that the Rays may be interested in a closer and an outfielder to shore up the team for the 2nd half run. So, Street and Buck or another OF?
Apparently Street and Murton are the ones they'd be interested in
Street didn’t really help our case going into the ASB though, we’ll see what Beane ends up doing
Murton: http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/rays/article694292.ece
DRays fans seem excited: http://www.draysbay.com/2008/7/11/569606/street-murton
The Rays always seem to ask too much
to get a deal done. But if they came back to planet earth and play fair, I think a Street-based deal could be made that would help both organizations.

Pretty sure that was the Devil Ray's organization
under Friedman they’re much more reasonable i imagine (aka the Garza-Young swap)
