Players to watch at RCs v. 51s
Folks -- please bear with me as I'm an A's newbie.
I just saw a Stockton Ports v. SJ Giants game this weekend (Chris Carter grand slam) and man what a little palace of baseball that park is. This week I'm heading up to see the RiverCats for the first time since last year. I've read some scouting news, but I'm curious to see who I should be paying attention to while I'm there.
Please enlighten me...
P.S. Down with the halos!

Players
Buck is still there, Gio Gonzalez may pitch depending on which game you see, and then there’s Guzman on the infield.

Travis Buck, if he is still alive.
Gio Gonzalez, if he starts that day.
Jesus Guzman (3B or 2B)
Cliff Pennington (SS, at least his D is supposed to be good…)
Wes Bankston (might get called up again)

Well the two best position players are....MIA
Buck and Jesus Guzman both haven’t played in a while and no one knows why. Past that there’s semi-prospects Landon Powell, Cliff Pennington, Eric Patterson and Wes Bankston. Patterson and Powell are probably the ones most likely to be on the A’s roster in a couple years and Bankston most likely to get a call-up before September of this year. Other players who have mediocre chances to make the show are former good prospects Danny Putnam and Richie Robnett.
Pitching-wise the best prospect is Gio Gonzalez, definitely the most exciting player to see in Sactown. Other pitchers are former A’s Lenny Dinardo, Kirk Saarloos, and Jay Marshall. Of those three only Marshall really has a chance at making the team in the future. You could also see the main piece of the Tim Hudson trade Dan Meyer. Basically there’s a whole lot of “Well that’s cool….I guess” and one “Sweet, I’m looking forward to seeing that guy!” (That guy of course being Gio).
The only other callups who could be exciting to see are James Simmons and Vince Mazzaro (who has a Duke-esque 2.11 ERA in AA), both SP. Aaron Cunningham could come up I suppose. But I doubt anybody will be called up with the mass call-ups of earlier this month.

Thanks
for the run down. I’ll be there on Sunday. Hope Gio’s pitching.

Travis fall down and go boom
I know he was on the DL for a concussion, but I haven’t been able to find out how it happened. Maybe in practice?
Buck is playing now—he was in CF and went 1 for 3 on 7/9 against the Sky Sox.

Saw it happen...
He ran into the chain link fence out in right center making an amazing catch. He came back from that one, but not sure why the lack of play now. This past Thurs he was in the dugout, and looked like he might of had too much sugar… Going Fri, so I have my fingers crossed that he will actually play.

Much appreciated
I feel like a joke about either (1) redeeming yourself or (2) Travis Buck’s sudden re-emergence is in order, but I don’t have one available.

Monday
We are going to our annual Rivercats game as well. On Monday vs. the Las Vegas 51’s (awesome hats!) Hopefully we can avoid the obligatory totally drunk dude from Grass Valley for once. Any idea who might be starting pitcher that game?
Enjoy the game

Thanks to all for the insight!
Really great stuff, folks. Thanks for helping me get straight on all this.
I’ll be at the game Saturday - I paid $35/ticket, so I think that allows me to coach first base for half and inning ;)
