AN DAY V - Tailgate 08

Since I can't seem to find the posts that recap the fun in the parking lot, I thought I would say a big THANKS to Blez  - we sure missed you and hope you are doing well.

Thank you, thank you  to BBG - you throw a great party and it always fun to welcome you and the SoCal crew to the Coliseum, you should come up again soon!

More thanks to ALL the folks who brought great food and drinks (the Jack Daniels was a nice touch), especially to Paradox for his delicious bbq in great abundance, and to the kids who decorated those green/gold cupcakes, and to Susan Slusser, who took the time to come out and say hello.

It is always fun to meet the real people behind those screen names, and GigglingOne, Pam of the numbers and Wes7, I especially enjoyed meeting you.

And I look forward to seeing the pictures..lots of folks had cameras and I'm sure they'll be posting before I even get mine off the camera.

Go A's!

Good Idea

now what mixed drink has the correct colors anyway?

Other than Lemonade and Jagermeister that is.

I like the absinthe idea

And we can drink locally!

Maybe we could replace Stomper with the Green Fairy.

Well, a decent margarita might suffice

Lime is green, tequila is yellow.
I think we can work it out.

Agreed 100% LongTimeFan!

It was great to meet you as well. I had an excellent time, huge props to Blez and baseballgirl for making it all happen. I didn’t have a camera with me, so I hope everyone posts pictures soon!

It was great putting faces to all the screen names!

Thanks for posting

I was just about to start a wrap up thread….

I don’t have a lot of pictures, but I’ll set the bar low by posting mine….

Paradox, the food totally rocked. It was amazing. I wasn’t able to get pictures of all the food, but it was quite the spread….

Nico, Baseballgirl, and Oaktown Power.

Monkeyball, McFood, and grover

Lots of people were there. I didn’t get a headcount, nor did I get pictures of everyone, but here’s a big group. And a horrible picture at that. But in the lower left, calgbear, behind him standing is Flashfire, sitting in the yellow shirt is imaseasonticketholder, in the middle of the picture is Susan Slusser, talking with her (you can only see the back of her head) is Baseballgirl, to the right is PaulThomas, and everyone else will have to point themselves out.

Oaktown Power and McFood, who was well on his way to becoming McBooze….I don’t know who has the pictures from him at the game, but there are some great ones somewhere….

McDrunk, Pam5981, and calgbear watching the action

I can’t remember if this is when Wes7 was singing “Take me out to the ballgame”, or yelling “UNICORN POWER”....really could be either one….

I don’t know who this was a couple rows in front of me, but your baby is ADORABLE.

I also kept seeing these faces in front of me. Awesome.

There's no crying in baseball!

great pics...

I’ve seen (pics or in person) of most before, but I definitely pictured OaktownPower differently. Great pics… or did I already say that?

Wow!

That might be the worst picture of me that I’ve ever seen. Worse than the one from my days in AmeriCorps when I’m busting out my best Enrique Iglesias impersonation at a member retreat. (The song was “Hero,” all right?!? How is that relevant?!? Ahem) Worse than the one from my junior year of college when I’m at a toga party….wearing a blue floral print sheet as my toga.

That’s impressive work, gigglingone, amazingly impressive work. Remind me to stay on your good side. :-)

LongTimeFan is right on, though. As photogenically challenged as I appear above, I had a blast on Saturday. Baseballgirl went above and beyond in putting it all together and I couldn’t have had more fun hanging out with Pam, LongTimeFan, and gigglingone. Hopefully the inner circle can gather again before this time next year.

Goodness

That looked like so much fun. Well, everything except the result from the game. Thanks again to baseballgirl for doing almost all of this. And the donations from paradox have become the stuff of legend. I hated having to miss it and I can’t wait for AN VI.

I think the record for AN Days now stands at 3-2.

by Tyler Bleszinski on Jul 13, 2008 11:19 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Hardly legendary

I tried some things, most worked out well. It was actually not the best day to smoke with a rock-solid 12 mph cool wind off the bay, it messed with my timing and made my smoky joe almost worthless. Still, next time I would smoke lower and slower, but I’ve never done it off the bay.

I am just this way; it’s like Chris Cooper in Seabiscuit, eh, when Jeff Bridges asks him why he’s healing that horse. ”’cause I can,” he said.

I had a wonderful time, it was always be treasured in my mind as one of my best baseball days ever. Susan Slusser showed up and someone took my picture with her, I still am dreamy about it. I haven’t got it yet but it will show up, I’ll treasure that image for the rest of my life.

She is a great, great writer and total class. Count on Susan to be the only journalist to stop by. She is the best people.

Good times

To echo everyone, the tailgate was a blast – thanks a ton to all who organized and made it happen. It was a lot of fun meeting and chatting with folks there as I’ve been a quiet reader for a while. Masterful grilling by Paradox and the A’s -themed cupcakes were quite festive.

I also somehow missed Slusser – did she have anything interesting to say to those who got to chat with her?

Unfortunately our “Rally Franks” didn’t do the trick for the A’s during the 7th inning rally. (That’s me and my wife with the masks)

I was sorry I couldn’t stay for the game, until I heard the score.
Many thanks again to everyone, especially paradox for the great eats and baseballgirl for all the organizing. I missed having a panel discussion (and contests) but maybe next year we can incorporate both the tailgate and the panel (and a game too, if necessary).
