Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Open Game Thread - Game 93 (cont.)

The A's trail the Angels 2-1 as we head to the bottom of the third inning. Gallagher has flashed outstanding stuff, hitting 97 with his fastball, showing an impressive changeup, and also getting excellent break on his slider and curve at times, although not spotting either one as well as he'd hope. Emil Brown couldn't come up with a difficult-but-catchable ball in right field; Chone Figgins turned it in to an RBI triple to put the Angels on the board and eventually scored himself. The A's have a run thanks to a run-scoring single from Hannahan. True to the Cubs fans' scouting report, Matt Murton has rolled over a pair of meek grounders to shortstop. He also has an unimpressive arm.

"You may glory in a team triumphant, but you fall in love with a team in defeat."--The Boys of Summer

by alox on Jul 11, 2008 8:15 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

True, but note the direction of causation.

It’s not that being hot makes you a shallow slut. It’s that if you’re the sort of person who is naturally inclined to be a shallow slut, you are highly motivated to make yourself as hot as possible in order to better achiever your slutty goals.

Normal women would like to be hot, too, of course. But they also have other priorities, so they aren’t as obsessive about it.

Jon Garland has pulled a Joe Blanton.

It just happened in the 3rd inning instead of the 4th or 5th like Blanton.

Long game for the Angels, lots of bullpen usage, and Garland is getting knocked around early.

I think good pitchers gain enormous confidence when arriving in Oakland.

There is such a mystique with the A’s and pitching. Not to mention the assload of foul ground to pull you out of a pinch.

by WaddellCanseco on Jul 11, 2008 8:33 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sure. I'm not talking about wins/losses either because that is totally

based on run support. I just have a hunch that after The Big 3 and others that a guy like Gallagher arrives feeling pretty good about being a part of this team. Curt Young is most likely VERY underrated and he will help this kid more than the Cubs organization.

Was Black Snake Moan a comedy or a drama?

Your point brings up another thing. I'm sure Ty Van Burkleo

has little to do with the AAA’s hitting problems but he probably won’t get any credit until they are a top offensive club.

Was Black Snake Moan a comedy or a drama?

by ohtobe21likehuston on Jul 11, 2008 8:40 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I imagine any mystique that the A's have

with young players concerns their opportunity. There’s not going to be very many big name veterans blocking you on the virtue of inertia. In other words….if you can play, you’ll get your shot.
