Sexson released, anyone interested?
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3481747
I for one think with Sexson and Cust, the A's would have the market cornered on strike outs. Anyway, here's the story:
"The Mariners would have loved to have been able to trade the .218-hitting Sexson, but his $14 million salary this season made that nearly impossible. So now Seattle is eating the rest of that money in what may be the first of multiple moves to rid the last-place team of underperforming veteran players."

For league minimum maybe
He is only 33, but with almost 200 games at a sub .700 OPS, he’s almost certainly done. I would rather see him than Brown, but not instead of Barton.

He's Murdering Lefties while his BABIP vs righties is .224
His OPS+ is 90, Daric Barton’s is 81. I initially scoffed at the idea, but maybe I take a flier on him.
Jeremy was safe. He jumped over the tag.

Hmmmm - No
But Jose Vidro on the other hand,,,,,,,(kidding)
I think Seattle needs to do the same with Vidro

Seattle needs to do the same with a whole bunch of guys
Vidro, Washburn, Batista… you could make a pretty good argument that they should release Johjima, but I suppose he’s not terrible as a grossly overpaid backup catcher. My god, that was a retarded contract.
Why not just say you’re giving the guy $20 million to be Japanese? Why not just pick some random Japanese citizen and give HIM $20 million? Or give $1 million to 20 of them?

Excellent reasoning
And, I agree with any “bad words” about the Jojima contract. IMHO, it sunk the whole ballclub this season, as well as looking into the future (which everyone does, which ADDED to this year’s poor performance).

Meh.
Johjima isn’t the only guy hitting like crap. Vidro is hitting as badly. Unlike, Johjima, he can’t play a position. He can’t hit, can’t get on base, can’t run. Yet, somehow he’s their DH. Willie Bloomquist would be a (much) better DH than Vidro, that’s how bad Vidro has been this season.
Getting an OPS+ of 58 and an EQA of around 200 from your primary DH will sink any team. The bugger is already 20-25 runs below the average DH. Vidro alone is going to cost them 4-5 games over a full season vs an average DH.

Jojima adds another dimension other than hitting
Rumor has it the pitchers don’t like him. So there’s grumbling, irritation, and then BANG! Jojima will be the catcher for the pitching staff, for the next umpty-ump YEARS! Thank you, BAvasi and Front Office!
Get.
Me.
Outta.
Here.

That’s the discouraging part. The lack of hitting is just a “bonus”.

No thanks
We kind of already have the market cornered on 1B/DH types and guys that can’t hit, but thanks though.
