Funny post currently on Craigslist

I don't know why I thought this was significant or funny, but I did.

Here's an entreprenuerial "game" for ya'all to ponder.  All you have to do is stand in line for an hour+ for a bobblehead, and you get a free crappy seat.  Leave it to Craigslist, where you can get anything from anonymous sex in a theatre to black market oxycontin.

Ugh

Used to be people would just try to find a bunch of kids to pull this crap on. Now it’s on Craigslist too?

I hate people like this who try to get fans to get them a bunch of bobbleheads just to go sell on eBay.

Just get the tickets, go to the game

and then don’t pay up. Say they were out when you got there.

Shaft speculators AND get a free game!

Mario, you 100% wrong

I think the guy is an asshole for doing this. This was a “social commentary.”

However, it is a web forum convention to post the link and the original text because CL will probably flag the ad as they should. AN would be the LAST place someone would fall for this.

I give the AN universe here credit for having high intelligence and that they “get it”. Apparently I was wrong in your case.

by ExGiantsFan on Jun 5, 2008 10:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Is it really that wrong?

I could care less about Bobbleheads. If I were going to College in the Bay Area, me and my friends would definitely take this guy up on his offer. Free Friggin’ Tickets. Hell yeah.

I don't really care one way or another

but why not just say you’re the person seeking services, instead of passing it off as some lame “social commentary?”

by oaktownmario on Jun 5, 2008 11:09 AM PDT up reply actions

ExGiants

chill with the hostility. My post has nothing to do with intelligence or “getting it.” It has to do with the very valid suggestion that you are using AN for advertising. It’s one thing to discuss the craigslist post, quite another to put all the required info necessary to complete a transaction, including phone number and craigslist email. Why is that even necessary? Why not just tell us about it without all the other unnecessary crap? Your hostility suggests I was right.

And since you want to attack intelligence levels, I’m sorry but I don’t see how the following can be considered any kind of “social commentary:”

Here’s an entreprenuerial “game” for ya’all to ponder. All you have to do is stand in line for an hour+ for a bobblehead, and you get a free crappy seat. Leave it to Craigslist, where you can get anything from anonymous sex in a theatre to black market oxycontin.

In legal terms that’s called an “offer” and you posted it it here to get “acceptance” of your offer. But you’re so smart you already knew that, right?

I'm not in court so I don't have to prove anything

it was just a suggestion, which he/she took offense at and then made a personal attack . . . so I felt it necessary to respond. As I said, I don’t really care one way or another because people ask for bobbles on here all the time or make various similar offers.

by oaktownmario on Jun 5, 2008 11:19 AM PDT up reply actions

Oh come on. Don't play the "we're not in court" card.

It’s not a suggestion. You outright accused him of posting it and trying to dupe people here.

You do seem to care enough about it to keep accusing him, too.

Probably this part, which I think oaktownmario earned

“I give the AN universe here credit for having high intelligence and that they "get it". Apparently I was wrong in your case.”

I mean, I could sit here and say “I think oaktownmario posted it and is trying to cover up for it by going after ExGiantsFan” and according to his logic I don’t have to prove it at all since we’re not in court.

Stupid. Just plain stupid.

Whoa there flash . . .

This is a blog right? And almost everyone here posts their opinion on matters discussed right? All I was stating was my opinion, nothing more, nothing less, and I gave everyone here credit for knowing that this was my opinion. If you look at my first comment, all I said was the following:

It seems to me that Ex Giants Fan is using AN as another way to advertise his/her services.

“It seems to me . . . ” not “Absolutely and without a doubt x,y, and z.”

It was only after I was insulted as having less intelligence than others here that I raised additional issues which IMO make the original post suspicious. Namely: (1) why post the phone #; (2) why post the contact email; (3) what exactly is the “social commentary.” Granted there could be several “innocent” explanations for this, but I think they are valid questions nonetheless. Also, I raised these questions as a smartass query in response to Ex Giants becoming, IMO, defensive in his response. Maybe I’m into semantics too much, but there’s a huge difference b/t opinion and flat out accusation. With respect to my comment that I wasn’t in court basically goes to the fact that I don’t need to “prove” my opinion to anyone. Seriously. Maybe I think blue is a better color and you think red is a better color. I say “prove it.” That’s what you were asking me to do and that’s “Just plain stupid.”

But again, I don’t really care if someone does say, “Hey, I bought 100 tickets and I want 100 bobbles. Free seats.” Just be honest about it. That’s just my opinion though. Should I prove it?

by oaktownmario on Jun 5, 2008 9:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Cut the charade, man

Opinion or accusation, you called him out for posting something and trying to act like it wasn’t his. He denied it, then you came back with a stronger accusation rather than taking him at his word.

I don’t know why you think your color example is even remotely related to this. It isn’t. You’re talking about which color you like better. I’m talking about accusing someone of underhanded tactics without anything to back it up.

Knock off the victim act. It doesn’t make you look good.

I don't have a problem with this

Free ticket for me in exchange for my time (show up early and wait in line) and a modicum of extra effort (circle back to the gate to pass the bobblehead back to the reseller). It’s not a deal I’d take personally, because my pre-game time is more valuable to me, but if someone else wants to trade his time+effort for a free ballgame ticket, why is that any skin off of my nose?

Don't blame me, I voted for oaktoon.

Actually, I did a similar post

I was trying to get some extra throwback shirts for the Carney giveaway for some posters on
AN. It would have been difficult for me to go around 3-4 times so I asked for anyone who wanted a free ticket to the game. ( I had 4 tickets) and that they would just have to give up the shirts.
Unfortunately, the group did not arrive in time ( they were traveling from Stockton) so I ended up giving the tickets away anyway. So not everyone is scamming.

"We get two outs, and I was sure, and I had a plan, and I shook Tek off," Schilling said. "And I get a big 'What if?' for the rest of my life."

by Imaseasonticketholder on Jun 5, 2008 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, but there's a bit of a difference between someone looking for...

...a couple extra shirts to get for people here who can’t go to the game (like I believe it was you doing for me with the DVD) vs. “If you think I will be out of tickets call anyway, I have a lot.”

This is someone who bought a bunch of the cheapest tickets possible with the intent to get a bunch of bobbleheads and sell them on eBay, not something where someone’s doing it for nothing extra to help out a fellow ANer.

How much money can this guy possibly be making off the sale of bobbleheads?

I think you should all chill. If that’s the way this LOSER is trying to make a living, god bless him.

Some people go to college, some people have 9-5’s, some guys are lawyers, this dude is making a living selling BOBBLEHEADS. I estimate he makes about $15/bobblehead = Big F’n Deal. Gotta love it.

by 33SwisherSweet on Jun 6, 2008 12:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Why I don't like the practice

Its like the pro scalpers paying people to buy up tickets to the best seats in the best events. Guess who owns the first rows of most major concerts???

“Regular” people can’t keep up with the “tricks of their trade” and their aggressive buting tactics. Greed is not easy to define in our society; but I KNOWZIT WHAN I SEEEZ IT. (Please note this is not the same as a legitimate season ticket holder trying to recover a few bucks for service charges and wasted exhibition games.)

Same principle applies here. This guy’s greed means X number of fans will NOT get a bobblehead. Just like most people will have to pay a premium to get orchestra seats to see a top musical or entertainer.

by ExGiantsFan on Jun 6, 2008 8:39 AM PDT reply actions

by monkeyball on Jun 6, 2008 4:59 PM PDT up reply actions

"orchestra seats"

just means the lower level, whether an orchestra is playing or not.

I still like live orchestra better than recordings, but I was in the business for years. I like live theater better than movies, too. Too bad it costs so much more.

Same idea as liking live games better than watching on TV, I suppose.

I think this guy is a HERO to be quite frank.

He makes $11 off of each bobblehead. $9 for cheap tickets and a bobble has a resale of about $20. How do I know this?

Because I buy A’s bobbleheads off ebay all of the time. Instead of getting to the game 2.5 hours early to make sure I get a bobble. I can show up at the game an hour early at my leisure and enjoy a few beers/’bbq with my friends/family in the parking lot.

Not only do I get my bobblehead, but I don’t have to show up 2.5 hours early, I don’t have to wait in some line for an hour and a half to get the bobble, I don’t have to deal with the bobblehead dealers, and I don’t have to start buying $8 beers until the game actually starts. All in all, this guy is ACTUALLY SAVING ME TIME and MONEY when I think about the beers/food I’d be buying inside if I actually sat through BP etc.

GOD BLESS HIS SOUL! Plus, when chicks ask him what he does for a living he gets to tell them that he sells bobbleheads. How sweet is that?

by 33SwisherSweet on Jun 6, 2008 12:17 PM PDT reply actions

I'm puzzled by something. Are there so few bobbleheads that you have to go early?

When I go to games in Arlington, I rarely get there before the anthem and I just walk up, get my ticket scanned, and someone hands me a give away. We’ve gotten bobbleheads, shirts, beach towels, Louisville Slugger bats, etc. Of course I don’t care considering they have Rangers logo all over them, but there always seems to be plenty to go around. And there are a lot more people showing up at Rangers games than A’s games.
