Open Game Thread: Game 79 - A's vs. Giants
The A's open a three-game series at home against the Giants tonight at 7:05 p.m. My fellow Cal Poly Mustang alum Kevin Correia takes on Dana Eveland, as the Giants look to avenge the A's series sweep at AT&T Park earlier in Interleague play.
Chavez and Sweeney remain out of the lineup, replaced by Rajai Davis, Emil Brown, and Jack Hannahan.

The (potentially) good news is
Correia has already made 2-3 mistakes, including a “drive me!” hanging slider to Crosby and the 0-2 pitch that Gonzalez popped up. If he keeps throwing a few of those, the A’s will be in good shape.

hated to see Crosby miss that 2-2 pitch to the screen
Had double or homer all over it, just barely missed it.

Good thing the Giants suck, so Rowand could go 12 for 12 this series and the A’s can still sweep.

That's an alarming trend,
Eveland’s BBs are more than Ks in June, back in April and May, he Ks almost double BBs.
He's also leading the league in fewest HRs/9IP,
but Horwitz and Winn both nearly got him.

Stomper is a badass!
It just seems that the A's often score runs in the late innings.
either because they have made the adjustments or the opposing pitchers are tired.
Would be interesting to see the stats on that.
It's true a little bit
Innings 1-3 - 111 runs
Innings 4-6 - 120 runs
Innings 7-9—109 runs

But the A’s offense did a decent job of working the count. Now that they’re into the bullpen for the final 4 innings, they need to take advantage of that.

Nah
He became my favorite player in 2001 when he first got called up by the Sox and I saw him play defense a few times. There was a game against Tampa Bay where Mark Buehrle took a no hitter into I think the 8th inning. In that game he made two absolutely ridiculous catches that prolonged the no hitter. From that point on he was my guy.
Plus, if he’s gonna get hurt, he better be the one making the catch.

Yes,
that would be the giants – they’re no good but at least they’re not a bunch of cheap rookies with potential….

The A's have good offenseive chemistry
either no runs or a bunch of them, if they get hot, they can really go on a tear
Korach and Vince
think Ziegler coming in next inning.
Too long sitting for Eveland

I hate my busy life. Haven't listened to Korach yet this year.
Hell… I used to prefer radio over TV but my butt likes the couch more. Anyone ever get a ton of stuff done at home while LISTENING to the radio broadcast?

I love the fact that Fosse hates the Giants. He's a homer but
in this case, I really enjoy listening to him talk up the A’s and show that there is no comparison between them in regards to success.

I think Fosse disdains poor baseball play
and the Giants show that too often.
Some announcers are charitable and ignore the fine points. Fosse lets it fly, verbally, when players don’t measure up.

Ask the ESPN announcers
who called him Dale Barton in the Tokyo series.

That announcer was Gary Thorne

Some East Coast announcer accidentally called him that
on a nationwide broadcast.
(Actually i think it was Gary Thorne, who is one of my favorites.)

It was a good call, too
I think it was Aurilia who asked for the appeal. Apparently Sadler and Molina couldn’t be bothered.

Anyone know where I can find a wide variety of A's player t-shirts?
The coliseum and online usually only carry Street, Harden, Crosby, ect. I’d go for the personalized t-shirts, but the back comes in white lettering.

Poor timing to praise Barton but he usually scoops up those horrible throws.
