Should I let my Guard down with Harden?
For the last four years or so I have put hope in Rich harden that he will be the Dominant pitcher that he is so capable of being, which is hard when he is on the disabled list after every other start. However, it almost appears that Harden has turned the corner on his injury problem which is what my heart wants to think. My head on the other hand will not allow me to let my guard down with Rich and it is telling me that this extended period of health for Rich is a fluke and the past four seasons is really the norm for him. I know this post is nothing fresh or new and I am pretty sure that the vast majority of AN users share my feelings I just wanted to see if anyone had any knowledge of Harden training differently or the A's new medical staff figuring something out with Rich that will allow him to stay healthy and dominate for the A's.

let your guard down enough to enjoy his next 3-4 starts ...
... and then to enjoy the haul the A’s get for him.
Than put your guard back up for when whichever team has panicked and overpaid for him allows/encourages him to go beyond his two “safe” pitches, and he’s DL’ed in August.

Currently Harden is merely injury-prone
as opposed to actually injured.
It’s analogous to a leaky roof when it’s not actually raining. Leaky, but not leaking.
So, you can hope it doesn’t rain anytime soon. Or you can hope he gets dealt for some blue-chippers and we can stop having to deal with this crap.

The only reasonable hope for sustained health,
as far as I’m concerned, is that the slider and splitter were especially hard on his arm and that the fastball/changeup combo works for him. I wouldn’t bet on it, but I’m willing to hope for it.

his 2 pitch repitoire is more than just 2 pitches
he has so much movement on his change-up that it seems like a splitter. i think i heard that he’s thrown a few splitters/sliders during this healthy stretch, but hasn’t used them regularly – i think a few a game is fine for his arm, but not more than that. whatever. with the movement on the fastball and change-up, he’s really throwing more than 2 pitches, as far as batters are concerned.

My head says trade him too
But I gotta admit, I will really miss having a pitcher who has you thinking possible no-hitter almost every time out.

would you settle for having an offense that has you thinking possible no-hitter almost every time out?

But at present, when Harden takes the hill
there’s TWICE the chance of a no-hitter, right?

so you'll have no regret...
when he gets injured, his trade value is back to 0. A’s get no prospects
at the same time without harden, they fall out of playoff contention.
so A’s are screwed either way.
if gio was pitching like they hoped for a late season callup, maybe the decision to trade harden would be easier.
plus for now, they are not getting worthwhile offers for blanton/street

and forgot to move him into the starting rotation of my fantasy team for his start yesterday. Definitely still kicking myself over that one.
