Andrew Brown takes BART?
The Chronicle reports that Andrew Brown rides BART to the games when at home. If true, I find this to be a totally cool reflection on what this dude is made of. In the era of whining, self-centered "me, me" stars who seem to care only about themselves, this dude is riding Mass transit to get to work. I seriously doubt there are many other MLB players, if any, who use Mass transit to get to the ballpark. Hats off to you Andrew!

Johnny Damon was also a BART rider when he was on the A’s. As I recall he would ride his skateboard to BART from his mansion in some upscale East Bay suburban area.
naw
he lived in the apartments on owens drive in pleasanton…same with erik hiljus

But he did take BART and ride his skateboard over the BART ramp.

Going back a ways
Bob Welch used to take BART to the games.
Root for the Giants? Not even if they're playing al-Qaeda!
Saw this as well in the Chron this morning while on BART...
so awesome!

I have vague memories of people reporting seeing Bobby Kielty on BART going to the Coliseum, but that could be the drugs soaking in.
It’s very cool that Brown takes BART to get to the games, taking advantage of mass transit is a very good thing. Just another reason that he’s freakin’ awesome.
"This must be heaven," he says.
"No. It's Oakland."
I've heard of White Sox players taking the L to Comiskey Park

I hear Ozzie is tired of seeing
the White Sox players take so many Ls.

I saw a few of the Mariners on BART when they were in town
RA Dickey, Ryan Rowland-Smith & Sean Green asked me what train they needed to get on to get to the coliseum from San Francisco.
Did you stare shamelessly at Dickey's elbow?

I love Andrew Brown
He marches to the beat of his own drummer. He’s like the A’s version of the B.F.G.

Haha that's great
I love it when players stay down to earth… like Jay-z says “Treat your first like your last and your last like your first” – stay humble. I always BART to games to get out of there faster than waiting in the parking lot… I think if they got rid of the urine smell, a lot more people would be willing to take BART.
Redsux...
also take BART. In fact, when Boston is in town, if you get there before 3 or 4 in the afternoon (when the game is at 7), you will see atleast three or four players walking on the ramp to the coliseum.
Andrew Brown had a car when he first got here (I got his autograph a day or two after his debut when he was leaving the players lot), but my friends have seen him on BART frequently.
Brown isn't...
the only A’s player who rides BART.
also a lot of players commute together, as well.
I guess it’s their attempt to off-set the damage they do by driving around in Hummers and such.

Or maybe they just hate the traffic as much as the rest of us do.

Or getting their chance
before there is no public trans to the new A’s stadium (grrr…)

Huston Street Take BART, too
I think it was KNTV that did a piece on it last week. It was funny bc he looked even younger in street (pardon the pun) clothes and unshaven.

(consults BART schedule)
(looks for trains to Coliseum that will be so crowded, nice young men will stand up to give their seats to older ladies—and then fall into their laps at a sudden stop)

Video...
The video segment about Huston Street on BART is posted on the NBC11 Sports Sunday website…

alright, that's it
I’m in love.

That's adorable
but I have severe questions about the Mickey Mouse shirt.
It’s refreshing to see players rockin’ BART. But… “the BART”? Is that like “the 80”?
"This must be heaven," he says.
"No. It's Oakland."
A few other things.
1) He either combed his hair with a rock or didn’t comb it at all
2) I think he just got up
3) I love that he’s worried about saving money
4) I want something BART-ish in my area
"JOAN! Are you watching Bombast? Did you see Lack Bust drop that fly call?"
That video is cute
I like the guy standing behind Huston at first who’s trying to be cool and act like he doesn’t notice the camera crew, pretending to read a text message.

Rich Aurilia
used to live at South Beach and walk to the park in his first giants stint. That was about the only walks he could manage at the time… and the only thing I ever liked out of him as a player.
Back in the 90's,
I saw A’s manager, Tony La Russa taking BART to the game. I barely said hello cause I could tell he was trying to be low key.
Nature's first green is gold...
My closest to an mlb player on bart was
sitting next to Eddie Guardado’s parents a few years back. on the way to the game They were extremely nice.
Did they ride BART every day?

I saw the article too
and now that I read all your comments, it seems like a few players do it, too.
I think I read a few years back about how all the teams get hotels in SF, and that a very few players rode BART, usually like three-four bullpen relievers (LOOK! I got autographs from Carmen Cali and Julio DePaula!!...???) together, but this is the first report I’ve seen about anyone since Damon.

The NBC-11 report
also interviewed R. Sweeney who said he has ridden Bart and said that a lot of the players do as well.
"Their batters are patient to the point that it's annoying." -Ryan Franklin
There was a funny story a few years back
about some of the Twins players when they were in town trying to ride BART to the Coliseum and ending up in like Richmond, or something… I’m not doing it justice, but it’s because I don’t remember any of the details…
