Things to do on the East Coast
So I'm headed to Boston to see the A's August 1st and 2nd, then I'm headed to NYC to catch the Halo's/Yankees game. If there's one team I hate more than the Yankees, it'd be the Angels, so I figure it's a safe bet I might not get arrested for being mouthy.....we'll see.
Anyway, I have the day before the game on Saturday night in Boston, and I have an entire day after the Yankees game in NYC, does anyone have an suggestions on things I should see other than the obvious touristy places? Didn't I remember someone having an A's bar or something somewhere in New York City, or did I make that up? But I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. IT's not much time to do anything, but I wanted to make it to Yankee stadium before they tore it down, and I'm going it alone. So instead of taking my saved money to help me move in August, I decided to spend some of it on this trip......what can I say, I have my priorities. Any suggestions would be great!!!

If you hate the Yankees why
are you going to see them? I could see it if they were playing the A’s.
When will then be now? Soon.

Last season in Yankee Stadium?
I don’t have any current plans to be East before the end of the season but I’d still like to catch a game in Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium before they’re torn down.

And then bury
a Chavez jersey under the remains of both.

That is the best idea I have ever heard
Although, with the prices of jersey’s being high, I’d hate to waste it like that.

Just got back to Buffalo from Boston...
If you’re looking for a cool place around Fenway, a bar called Game On is pretty cool and it’s connected to Fenway behind the outfield. I watched the NBA games from right outside the Garden. The Greatest Bar is a more upscale four-story place (my friend ran into Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth and Brandon Merriweather, among others, there after Game 2) adjacent to the arena. Right across the street is a dive bar called Sully’s, where we watched Game 1. As much as I, too, am fed up with Boston sports, Sully’s is an awesome sports bar and is said to be the longest bar in Boston.
The Faneuil Hall area is more of a “touresty” place in downtown Boston and is certainly worth a look. Lots of cool stores (my friend manages the three-story Abercrombie & Fitch) and restaurants, and you could easily kill a few hours just taking it in. I’ve never been to The Bronx and am unsure of where else I went over the weekend in Boston, but I’m sure I could find out if I knew the area at which you’re looking. Have fun & Go A’s.

Buffalo?
Are you actually in Buffalo or one of the many outlying areas? My wife is from Newfane and still has a lot of family in Lockport. She always tells people she is in Buffalo for the simple fact that most people have never heard of Newfane or Lockport. Just curious if the same applies here.

Actually in Buffalo...
Across the street from Shea’s Performing Arts Center & a few blocks up from Dunn Tire Park, home of the Bisons, and HSBC Arena, home of the Sabres. Lockport is about a half hour north & I’m among those who have no idea where Newfane is.

Newfane is
a pretty poor area near lockport. My wife and i are huge Sabres’ fans. Must be pretty nice living so close to the arena. Well, if your a hockey fan anyway.

In Boston
Check out Harvard Square, that’s a fun area. Closer to Fenway would be like Newbury Street and the Prudential Center. (And yeah, Faneuill Hall/Quincy Market provide a lot of touristy fun.)
I only know the bars around Northeastern since I’m only 20 still, although I did get into the Sunset on Commonwealth Ave. one time, which I’m told has the largest beer selection in the city. So, you know, if a wide array of beer choices is your thing, there’s that too. There’s a lot of bars and stuff also immediately around Fenway.
(If you’re into baseball history, there’s a statue of Cy Young commemorating where home plate was for the first ever World Series right on the Northeastern campus, too B-). )
RagingHarden: Yeah if you get 20 starts out of me I'll be shocked. Like, I'll wreck my drawers.

+1 on Harvard Square...
forgot to mention Harvard Square, but I strongly urge Faneuil Hall. It’s a nice city.

We are going to the A's NY series in July.
We plan to go on a tour of Harlem and we also plan to visit the Tenement Museum. My youngest daughter will earn her master’s degree in African- American History in Dec. so she is super excited to visit Harlem. I am excited to see Yankee Stadium before they move to the new stadium. Now baseball…that’s my kinda history!

A nice way to kill time in NYC
which I did on an August afternoon last year is to start in SoHo and walk down through Little Italy to Chinatown. These are three very different neighborhoods, but they’re all quite small and close together, so you can see them all without a lot of walking around or cabbing or transit. In SoHo I went to the only North American outpost of Uniqlo which is sort of like IKEA except with cheap, fashionable Japanese clothes instead of cheap, fashionable Swedish furniture. (Actually, I would have been better off starting in Chinatown and walking uptown since I left UNIQLO with some huge shopping bags.) Then I went to the SoHo outpost of the MOMA store which has a small selection of goods from
MUJI but it wasn’t really all that worthwhile. MUJI (which is another fabulous Japanese retailer) now has its own shop in Times Square but it wasn’t open when I was there. From there I wandered into Little Italy where there was a street fair of some kind going on, bought a slice of pizza and an Italian ice from a vendor and watched some dancers. Then I went a few more blocks and was in Chinatown, which is older than our San Francisco and Oakland Chinatowns and has a different feel. The Museum of Chinese in America is really nice; unfortunately they seem to be in the middle of moving this summer, but they are offering walking tours of the neighborhood which would be fun.

Sweat.
Seriously—went to Bawlahmer in May, 07 to see a game at Th’ Yords, and that’s mostly what we did. I’d forgotten, and I grew up thereabouts.
