Tide is turning on A's trades -- maybe Beane's not a genious

Does Swisher's HR spree cast any doubts in your mind about the trade now?

With the A's hurting for power bats the A's could use Swisher now.  G. Gonzalez is turning out to be only average at AAA -- maybe the reason he's been traded so many times isn't that he's so good, but possibly that he's flawed.  The other dude Faustio whatever is done with ligament replacement (save the spelling homework comments). And now that leaves us with R. Sweeney who seems like a decent player who's  on the DL already, but I'd rather have Swisher's  personality and power.  Give Beane a "D"on that trade.

The pitchers the A's got for Haren are starting to fade.  It takes a special pitcher to perform well with minimal  run support game after game.  It's starting wear down the two young guys.  Haren was better prepared to throw shut-outs.  Carlos Gonzalez looks great in a uniform.  If you like a bunch of doubles and a  .200 average he's your boy.  He fits right in with Barton, but with more pop.  Good luck on the other kids AZ threw the A's.  Time will tell how this deal pans out -- so far it's a "C-" and dropping.

You've got to  like the ATL. trade. The Braves get an older guy (Kotsay) who's on the DL and the A's get a young pitcher (Devine) who's on the DL.  Broken down outfielders with great personality and no power are a dime a dozen so this deal gets a "B" .

Your conclusions seem a tad premature

Swisher has all of 8 HRs. He too stood at a mighty .200 just a week ago, and his average now stands at a mind-boggling .228.
I say we give Gonzalez, Eveland and Smith another two or three games before declaring them busts.

Actually look at Ryan Sweeney’s stats versus Swisher’s stats. Sweeney is hitting for a higher average, OBP and slugging. I’ll also take his defense over Swisher’s any day of the week. If you want personality around the team rather than better performance, maybe we should suit up Stomper? As for Gio Gonzalez and Fausto, we’re going to wait on them because there is no need to rush them.

And the Haren trade looks like one of Beane’s better deals almost every day.

Hey PT

Seriously though, are you serious?

I think everyone is having a little frivolity at his expense, but he did bring it upon himself. Whether it is real or false, there is not much to debate. Haren is having a great start and the guys we got for him have made an impact. Before a couple of pedestrian starts Eveland Kneivel was lights out, Smith equally so, CarGon in 11 days has shown flashes of the brililance and justified the designation as the centerpiece of the trade. The other two trades yielded some good, promising pitching and Mini-Sweeney who has looked like a potential daily starter. So I would think that even the most casual observer could debunk this posting.

And if this is what it takes to bring out the creative juices that ensued, I say bring it on! One more “fail” clip and I will get fired for excessive laughing on the job!

2008 Oakland Athletics...more than meets the eye!

by OptimistPrime on Jun 10, 2008 4:53 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Quite serious

The only really effective way to rebut insanity is through mockery. You can’t engage it in a rational debate, because it’s not rational to begin with.

During my fifth (and final) year of debate (this was in college), we ran a performance-based affirmative that made fun of nuclear weapons, and argued that because people can’t rationally conceive of things like “a billion deaths,” the only way to counteract the philosophy of nuclear weapons is through mockery…

Wow. I am truely impressed by the number of responses.

However, quality and intelligence was not impressive at all. As expected, and noted in my original post, nearly all the responses are aimed at a spelling mistake. Only a few of the response actually focussed on the actual subject matter.

The point of the post, besides getting a reaction, was to see if everybody on this A’s lovefest blog could be objective. Maybe the deals work out in time, but it’s not necessarily kicking ass right now. Wacking off to every move Beane makes doesn’t make you the ultimate A’s fan. It should be ok to express an opinion even if it isn’t popular. And it should sure as hell be ok to spell a few words wrong on a sports blog.

by BlueMoon on Jun 10, 2008 11:37 PM PDT   0 recs
