DLD 5/7/08: Blah
I'm having a crappy week, so I need a DLD. The Monday one is, well, from Monday. Today is Wednesday. What happened to Tuesday?
Here's some links. Y'all have to provide more.
- This headline scared the crap out of me. I closed the windows in case they were flying around here. Then I realized that "lost" did not mean missing.
- Penguins always makes me smile.
- I didn't realize this was still on tv. Does anyone even watch that channel?
- If you are going to steal candy bars, don't eat them until after you get away....
- I wish I knew about this website years ago. Brilliant idea. Brilliant.
12:35 game time today. Thank goodness. Until then, dump away....

threw an A out at the plate on a fly ball near the warning track—my memory of it is that he threw the ball about 300 feet on the fly to the catcher. Does anyone else remember that?

Petit?
I’d almost be willing to give Crosby away at this point, just so that the team would spend the year actually evaluating the SS position instead of blocking it with a lame duck who’s mediocre anyway.

Significantly? I dunno.
I’d still rather see what the team has in Petit. If the team is going to make a free agent splurge at shortstop, the time for it is this offseason.

Who would you suggest throwing a bucket of money at?
According to Cot’s Baseball Contracts these are the potential SS free agents this offseason:
Orlando Cabrera CWS
Alex Cintron CWS
Alex Cora BOS
Craig Counsell * MIL
Adam Everett MIN
Rafael Furcal LAD
Cristian Guzman WAS
Cesar Izturis STL
Ramon Martinez LAD
Edgar Renteria * DET

There’s nobody on that list I want to see a big dollar multi year contract offered to.

That's a rather strong group
We can assume Renteria will not be part of it, but even looking at the rest, I see 1 likely All-Star, 2 solid starters (assuming Guzman’s post-LASIK hitting improvement is real) and 3 or 4 decent starters. If the Tigers decline Renteria’s option that would add one more to the solid starter group.
