Open Game Thread - Game 33: A's vs. Rangers

Texas Rangers @ Oakland Athletics

Greg Smith takes the mound to see if he can keep the Rangers to 2 runs or fewer, as the A's try to prevent a sweep of the weekend home series.

Starting for the Rangers is ... Feldman?

C57583_corey-feldman-posters_medium

And their five starting second basemen:
Duranduran_uk_presskit_1981

Well, since the on-field and giveaway unis are flashback to the late '60s and the Rangers starter and second baseman are flashbacks to the mid '80s, I'm going to venture a guess that the A's may once again have trouble scoring runs today.

On the other hand, the Rangers starter is a mediocre double-A pitcher who none of the A's have ever seen, so ... uh-oh.

My memory is the practice of pulling the stirrups way up began in the late ‘70s or early ‘80s.

In ‘68, I’m pretty sure most players showed relatively little safety sock.

will bring a nice victory.

Pretty cool Sunday for me because I went to my gf’s hometown of Pratt which is only a half hour away from Greensburg. President Bush and his entourage passed us on the highway in about 7 Suburbans, a few Highway Patrol cars and two Sheriff cruisers. Bush isn’t very popular these days but I still thought it was cool to drive past him on a 2-way highway today!

A lot of that is offense for the league is down

If they get swept

They should be embarrassed.

Ellis, Crosby, Hannahan just to name a few look like (today) like they have no clue out there.

I bet Greg would like that pitch back to Duran but apart from that he has been great. Pity his teammates have no intention of helping him.

I like what (I think) Geren is doing,

Casilla the 7th, Embree the 8th, Street the 9th, assume we’ll score at some point.

Ellis needs to be dropped to lower third

Right now he’s killing the A’s with his popups and groundouts.

by samljm on May 4, 2008 2:49 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hence the problem

If we had other worthy candidates I don’t think Geren would hesitate to drop Ellis down in the order. But you want Hannahan #2? Ryan Sweeney? Me neither. The only thing I can think of is to go:

Suzuki
Barton
Cust
Thomas
Brown
Crosby
Ellis
Hannahan
Sweeney

You know what Geren should do?

Davis to the OF, give up the DH, pinch hit for the pitcher if the #4 hitter comes up again.

My thought is Davis to LF (in the #4 spot)

Embree bats in Cust’s spot, Mike Sweeney pinch hits for Embree in the bottom of the 8th. Street should be coming in anyway. Denorfia, Murphy, and Bowen still available off the bench.
