Open Thread: Game 56 - A's @ Rangers (continued)
After starting off like they all wanted to peace out as early as possible and catch a viewing of "Sex and the City Movie", the A's hitters finally manned up and made it a game last inning by scoring 3 after four innings of silence.
Unfortunately, Blanton is not giving the team a chance to string anything together after giving up 6 runs and counting...
Rangers 6, A's 3, bottom of the 5th...

Cool
I live almost on the border of Shell Beach and Pismo. So I actually live in what the call Shell Beach but my postal code is Pismo. If i got to know people on here I would be cool with letting them stay at my house. I have spare rooms and its half a block to the beach. I am looking to buy another home in San Luis Obispo within the next few months.

The Texas rotation in A ball is the reason why tat team has the best record in all of organized baseball.
The rotation of theClinton team has an ERA around 2.5. Its amzing

We are 0-3 without Thomas
What’s worse is that he was starting to heat up.
Wow our Most Productive Hitter can't run either
Lets compare their #3 hitter to ours and this can explain why we are down by 3.
Hey You diary writing types...
Why doesn’t someone write a diary about making a big attempt to go to Monday Night’s game in Oakland to support Ziggy’s A’s debut?
Plenty do.
My husband and I are going to be there because of Ziggy. We usually only go on the weekends until Summer( I don’t work in the summers). But we want to cheer on Brad in the event he gets into the game.
Chavez is a major leaguer. This is not true of all of our hitters.
Brown TAKE SOME PITCHES!!!!
Brown sucks
he is the one player i cant stand on the A’s/ He isnt good at shit! Ok RBI’s. The guy’s OBP is .280. There are alot of guys in MLB that are batting above .280 lol

Do you folks think Chavvy is standing closer to the plate the last couple of days?
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
It's possible that it was a back-related adjustment
or even one related to the shoulder, although he always insisted that the shoulder had no impact on his hitting.
If his back hurts, he wouldn’t be able to get around as quickly on the inside fastball.
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
can we close the book on Blanton the mediocre??
Anyone arguing different has pretty much no case. forget trading him.

Joe is having a bad game.
But Joe is Joe. We know what he is and it’s not an ace but he’s a valuable guy. he’s the same every year.
I love Joe
but he is not worth what Beane wants for him. As the steroid era comes to a close he is becoming less valuable. Pitching has been much better this year.

"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
They would have to be pretty desparate to want
Blanton. Like I said, gives up too many hits.
Innings eater so what. those innings come with many runs. If he gets no run supoort people complain. He then gets run support and lows it as evidenced by last three or four starts.
he's a solid starter, and I don't think anything better than "solid starter" has been offered for him
The A's colors are green and gold.
I just read where Beane thought that
Blanton’s value was close to Haren’s.No fricken way your getting 6 player let alone 4 quality ones for Blanton.

which Beane was trying for with the Dodgers last year, but couldn’t get.
The A's colors are green and gold.
LOL 10 hits into the game and Korach says
“That will get the bullpen in action”
Geren should be gone....
Bob Geren is the worst manager in baseball. He has no instincts out there. He couldn’t tell that Blanton didn’t have it today and was leaving his pitches up. So, what does he do after we manage to tie the game. He sends him out there, I know it’s pretty much like a brand new ball game when the score is tied, but with the way Blanton was throwing you knew he needed to be relieved.
Another fine example of Geren’s lack of instincts was in that same inning when the A’s and 1st and 2nd with no outs instead of calling for a bunt he lets Gonzalez swing away. Gonzalez goes after the first pitch and flies out to shallow left. Next batter Kurt Suzuki hits a single up the middle to have the bases loaded again because it was a smash up the middle. Luckily for the A’s Hannahan hit a sacrafice fly to left to tie the game up. Again that’s just perfect example of the lack of knowledge of the game that Geren exhibits he should have been gone after one year. He’s proven time and time again even last year he wasn’t fit to be a manager.
If only you were the manager.
If only.

With Blanton pitching like a gascan it was better to have
Gonzalez swing away.
When you've gotten several hits in a row,
probably not the best time to make outs on purpose.
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal
If Gonzalez pops out while trying to bunt we would scream that Geren needs to let him sing the bat. Hind sight is 20 20 Geren didn’t do anything wrong in that situation.
Eveland rocks! Eveland rocks! Somewhere Drew Carey just smiled.
Okay, so you blame Geren
for (a) not pulling his starter in the 4th or 5th inning, to be replaced by, let’s see, the 15th-best pitcher in our system, and also (b) for not playing for 1-run to tie the game so that the 15th-best pitcher in our system can slam the door on the Rangers? That makes a lot of sense.
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
He's doing fine as a manager.

Could have put someone fresh in who isn’t keeping the ball up. At least with the bunt we get two runners in scoring position as well who knows maybe Gonzalez beats it out. But Geren should have pulled Blanton there’s no doubt about it that he didn’t have it today. Gaudin could have come in and pitched well.
These guys in the bottom of the lineup really don't know how to "real" A's.
