Well, I'd like to say that the A's broke Cleveland's scoreless innings streak, but I'd be lying. Cleveland broke it themselves with an error, giving the A's their lone run.
On the pitching end, Smith looks less than sharp, allowing three runs already in this game. It's bad, but if not for a diving catch by Cust (yes, really!), it could be a lot worse.
We go to the fourth, 3-1 Cleveland. A's still looking to score a *real* run.

The A's May Not Score an Earned Run The Rest of This Road Trip!
Cleveland has the second best pithing in the AL and the Braves the best in the NL. Combined with an enimic offense…well you get the drift.
Also, Murphy and Davis had their chance to show they belong in the bigs. Both have underperformed. Look for them to be DFAd when Chavy and Buck return.

I don't know about Murphy. He has a little pop, a cannon of an arm and decent athleticism.
Not sure he’ll produce enough with the bat though at 2nd (he doesn’t have the range to play SS everyday).

I don't trust ML numbers of guys who never get regular time
but Murphy’s minor league numbers are better than, say, Hannahan.
I think people underestimate Murphy’s range. If Ryan freaking Theriot is an everyday SS, Murphy can be one.

I tend to think of Chadford as really focused on the batter… not really paying too much attention to 1B. On the other hand, maybe he let fewer runners get to base, or more runners got XBH? Lots of possibilities.

We’re starting an interleague series tomorrow, and that the bullpen is likely to be used a hell of a lot more than normal for the next 3 days.
It’s a getaway day, the offense isn’t doing shit, and we’re already on the 3rd reliever of the day with two more inning to go.

Just throwing it out there
But has anyone noticed that the team has just flat-lined since it was announced that Gaudin was going to the bullpen and Harden was taking his place? It just seems like the team really took offense to that move, and it has shown with the way they have played.

It's kinda sad..
Smith didn’t have his best stuff, but he still kept us in the game again. Duke and Blanton both did the same. These have all been very winnable games. Must be very discouraging for the A’s pitching staff, but then again maybe they have grow accustom to it over the last couple years.
