Rangers got luckier with their balls in play and the OF defensive difference is pretty big

Can Cortroneo just shut up...

He did nothing in particular today to warrant my frustration, but I’m just so tired of his act in general. I don’t care about Texas. Stop talking about it – especially when we aren’t playing them.

Did any of you here the Wednesday Day game broadcast vs. the O’s when he signed off his inning by stating “Texas 4, Orioles 2.” I couldn’t believe it – then again I could.

German tried the fake to 3rd throw to 1st play

picked Ellis off and Crosby zoomed home at the speed of light

by WaddellCanseco on May 11, 2008 2:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Ellis took off for 2nd

but did it horribly and ran BEFORE German had thrown the pitch. So German turns around and throws to 2nd to get Ellis. Ellis stops, and goes back towards first while Young chases him towards first. Crosby moves down the line at third about equal with Young, and then midway just goes flat out home. The throw home was not in time (and dropped) and Crosby scored, adn Ellis went to 2nd.

Ellis tried to steal second but the pitcher threw a pickoff move to first.

Whilst the 2B and 1B were dealing with Ellis in a rundown, Crosby went home. The 1B threw home, but not in time and Ellis took second.

by OldhamA on May 11, 2008 2:34 PM PDT up reply actions

The old "intentional pick-off" with 1st and 3rd

was a Billy Martin staple; I think Tony La Russa used it a fair amount too during his A’s tenure.

by Soaker on May 11, 2008 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions

IIRC

Ellis was “caught” trying to steal 2nd … pitcher threw to 2nd way ahead of Ellis … 2B started running Ellis back to first, just as 2B threw to 1B, Cros took off, slid around Salty getting the throw from 1B … Ellis gets 2nd on the throw

Move by Texas pitcher

the old fake to third, throw to first, except Ellis was running. When they threw to second, Crosby broke for home (he was down the line) and scored. Throw to catcher (Salt) was off-line, and he muffed it anyway. Crosby scored, Ellis safe at second.

Confusion for Rangers, because Ellis stopped halfway to second, forcing a throw, and that is when Crosby broke.

I honestly don't think he's that bad. He's not a CFer, but he could be a good corner

outfielder defensively. Hitting wise he’s made some steps I feel – the increase in walks the last few weeks being a big factor in that feeling. If he can start hitting some more extra base hits you could justify him being moved to one of the corners.

by OldhamA on May 11, 2008 2:41 PM PDT up reply actions

He would need alot more

extra base hits. His OPS is .656 on the season. That is putrid for a corner outfielder.

a pitcher makes us uncomfortable doesn’t mean he’s the wrong choice.

I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

Oh, please

As fans, we know everything better than Geren. We’ve had far more experience, and are always careful to analyse Geren’s reasons for a move before criticising.

Damn it, Nico, get with the program. This is your second warning. If I don’t start hearing some “We Suck” from you, it’s detention

We're going to knock balls out of the country's park, for the home team, which is America. @('.')@

Now make a "meal"

in the shape of an “E”.

A’s now up, 9 to 6 over the Rangers.

I think I'm gunna switch to Big Old Espenxive Phone Company

at least they’re up front about screwing you, and it can’t be more than what Comcast already does…

I like the Cust walks

(And that was not a good throw over… luckily)

So the Angles got swept by Tampa Bay

and we almost got (knock on wood) swept by Texas.

Seattle is up 5-3 over Chicago to avoid their sweep.

Stupid question?

What are those thick, plastic necklaces that players wear these days? Magnets?

LS

said with a lisp of course

it was your classic A's injury

rounding first going to 2nd, a grimace, and then pulling up at 2nd with the ghost of Larry Davis over his shoulder.

by Zonis on May 11, 2008 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions

sigh….does that mean we’ll see murphy at 2nd for a few games and than Ellis will than appear on the DL?

by Coffee13eans on May 11, 2008 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

probably

knowing the A’s, they willl try their best to handicap the team by waiting 14 days before retroactivly putting Ellis on the DL.

SHUT UP FOSSE!

ASK A QUESTION, NOT A STATEMENT!

And Kuiper’s been infected too…
