I hate Comcast

Please write a note to those morons at Comcast SportsNet Bay Area if you were as pissed off as I was when they cut the A's broadcast for the Sharks game. They didn't even put the A's on an alternate channel. I found the Tigers/Red Sox game on an alternate but no A's game! Rivercats preview, Giants game, Sharks game, Tigers game...SO WEAK!

thats funny....

I remember how pissed off I was that they wouldnt put the Sharks on an alternate station while the A's game was still on. I was actually hoping the A's would roll over in the 9th so the Sharks would come on. LOL

Red Sox still suck! A's in '08.

I agree

I actually find the game on and have a chance to watch and they didn't finish the game? That wasn't cool

by NVAngela on Apr 9, 2008 8:26 PM PDT   0 recs

I was surprised they didn't split screen it ...

but, from a business perspective, they had to do it. The Sharks game is being broadcast on two stations, CSN and VS. If they hadn't gone to the Sharks game they'd have lost a huge portion of their viewers for the next two hours who would have just settled in at VS.

It is a playoff game.

Thanks for the VS info

I just tuned to VS hows that for a business decision?

Business decision? Eh ...

Personal decision? Good move.

VS is blacked out in my area...

So I had no choice

Red Sox still suck! A's in '08.

I have the Dish Network

And I couldn't watch the Sharks game on Comcast SportsNet or VS for some odd reason. Are the games blacked out for Dish Network subscribers that live in San Ramon?

I called their Sacramento office and left them a message. I sent them an email too.

My gripe is not with their sharks decision. My conplaint is that they showed Gints pregame coverage over the A's on the alternate channel. The Giants game didn't even start for 15 minutes or chrissakes. Also, at my house (dish network) the CSNW channel was blacked out for awhile.

by VivaOakland on Apr 9, 2008 8:57 PM PDT   0 recs

I will say this though

If they were playing another game, and the A's playoff game just came on, I'd sure as hell prefer to go to the Playoff game than the regular season game.

Then again, the MLB Playoffs are on ESPN/Fox, so...

Comcast=Dirtbags

I hate Comcast because they basically are thieves. I called to sign up for extra innings last week. After I called I was trying to find the HD game, according to the EI HD schedule on the internet. No luck. I called Comcast back to find out where the HD game was, I was told well Comcast doesn't broadcast the HD games. I said well I bought EI and EI includes HD games so what gives? The person said that was tough and that Comcast doesn't do the HD for EI. So I said well, that' s not what is advertised so I don't want the package. The Comcast employee told me that I had already started the package and that was that. No refund. No HD.

HORSE SHIT!

So I made a couple more calls and got the package removed and my account refunded.

So I am totally frustrated by two things.

1. That person I spoke to on the phone had an almost gleeful response when I said I didn't want the EI package, saying I was stuck with the bill but not the service I paid for. What is that about?

2. There is all this advertising on Comcast about HD and they pull some shit like that? WTF

It's seems like so much trouble to switch to a dish, but I am close. Er, maybe not.

Any suggestions?

Comcast BAD

I have Direct TV so I don’t have to deal with Comcast any more thankfully. I know this sight has a lot of Direct TV haters, but I like it even with its flaws. Take last night when they switched over to the sharks game, I just tune into the blue jay's broadcast. Of course do get to watch most of the A’s games (via the other teams broadcast) with the extra innings packet. I won’t lie that package isn’t cheap, but it is worth it to me. There really isn’t a good option here. For those of you in the A’s area you’ll just be blacked-out. When the A’s play in Baltimore, they block the games here.

I ragged on DirecTV when ESPN2 died

on opening day, but I was thankful I had it last night. This is the first year they've offered two broadcasts and it is awesome.

So how does it work for RAFs? As far as black outs and such?

And what about games on channel 6? And, for example, do you get other team's broadcasts in HD? With or without EI?

and, and and... so many questions.

I thank you kindly for your assistance.

I think you are pretty much screwed if you are a RAF.

Unless you know someone that lives in a non-A's region who has a Slingbox or you have a different billing address or something. For RAFs, if the game is on a "local" channel, MLB makes doesn't let you watch it on any channel but your local channel. EI will be blacked out even if the game isn't on a local channel.

If the game is on Action 36/Cable 6, a local channel, the coverage is not offered to EIers, but there's a good chance the game will be on if the other team is covering the game. Pretty much, if the game is on a channel DirecTV has access to (FSN, CSN, YES, NESN, STO, etc) it will be on EI.

I don't have HD but I do know that EI also has HD channels.

mlb.tv

I tried to login to my friend's mlb.tv account yesterday to catch the last inning (when Comcast robbed me)... but it was blackedout in NYC (where my friend is located).... I guess because NYC is in the Jay's market area? Com'on! No one is *that* big of a Jay's fan. Could you imagine driving to Toronto from NYC to catch a game; bypassing two MLB parks on the way?

MLB.TV does not blackout via the account address

it blacksout via your IP adress.

You are right

it is nice that they had both broadcast. The only time I dislike watching the other teams broadcast is when that team is the Angels. Those two guys are so freakin annoying. Rex and Mr. Square Pegs.

This is the email I got back from them this morning:

Thank you for contacting Comcast SportsNet regarding our coverage last evening.

We are fortunate that the Bay Area has so many great sports teams and we are blessed that six teams make our network their home. Last night’s schedule produced a "perfect storm" for live sports: the A’s and Giants were playing simultaneously when the Sharks playoff began 30 minutes earlier than usual because of NHL national broadcast agreements. This schedule eliminated the cushion we normally provide between games airing on Comcast SportsNet and we will re-air last night's Sharks game in its entirety today at 12pm PST.

We understand – and share – your desire to see as much local sports coverage as possible. We apologize that last night’s scheduling conflicts prevented us from airing all three games simultaneously. These conflicts are an unfortunate possibility in the business of live sports television. We are continually monitoring the regular and post-season schedules of our team partners, as well as searching for new technical solutions that enable us to provide the best possible response when conflicts arise.

As sports fans, we recognize that live sports excitement elicits a passionate response. We thank you for watching Comcast SportsNet and for taking the time to share your comments with us.

Sincerely,
Comcast SportsNet

Don't know which I like more

the fact that the A's in the bottom of the ninth is equal to the Giant's pregame show, or that they were quick to point out to you that they will replay the entire Sharks game when you were asking about the A's.

Same generic message

I asked about the A's too and thats the same generic response, myself and others received from them. Call Comcast before 5pm and tell them to put the A's on CSN+ and preempt the first inning of the Giants game if it happens tonight.

If Blanton was pitching...

We wouldn't have this problem since the game would be over in about 2 1/2 hours.

But why aren't the A's on HD?!?!?!??!?!?!?! ARRRRRRGGGGGGG

It's painful to watch non-HD once you're used to HD!!!!!!!

Yes this is my problem

I am now addicted to HD. It sucks when I can't get it.

My point-of-view...

...was that I'm paying for access via MLB EI for out-of-market games (I live out-of-market), and dammit, I should get what I pay for. I couldn't care less about the Sharks or the fact that their's was a playoff game... the channel was going to be turned off for me as soon as the A's game was over anyway.

I was able to switch to the Jays' feed, so I didn;t actually miss the game, but I still feel I didn't get the full service I paid for.

"Rebuilding" is loser mentality.
