Sabean is a garbage GM
If he were with the A's he would be the Janitor

Anyone who thinks Sabean is better than Beane...
...isn't even worth the time it'd take to tell them how wrong they are.

I'm going to call him up and say
"you have two last names. neener neener."

He does this every year....
Lowell Cohn, or Lower Colon, just loves his Giants ( how many times has he pontificated about Willie Mays?!?!), but he needs the A's to beat up on in order to make everyone think he is a true sports journalist who doesn't play favorites. But, most people have figured out that he gives the Giant's a free pass on a regular basis, just like in today's article in the Press Democrat. I was this far (imagine me holding my index finger and thumb real close together) to writing a nasty note back to Lowell, but my friend who used to be a journalist for Sport Magazine in the 80's told me that this is exactly what Lowell wants me to do. If he gets a bunch of rotten letters about his anti A's stance, then his boss knows he is doing a great job. Readers will get all agitated and then they can't wait to read his next disturbing piece. This kind of negative stuff gets people to the sports section, ironically. Gary Radnich does the same thing.......he can't say ANYTHING negative about the Giant's because KNBR owns part of the Giant's. So, in order to make it sound like he is the tough guy neutral sports talk host, he has to beat up on the A's with sound bytes like, "NAME ME FIVE A'S ON THE TEAM!", all the while fluffing Tim Lincecum. Radnich is such coward, but don't get me started!
So, no one should write him. Just ignore him.

Agreed...
didn't know KC was in the business of acquiring Top Proven Major League Talent as this guy suggests is/will be the case once Barton develops.
I'm sure KNBR promotes this guy, Lowell Cohn, as a great Bay Area journalist. Thank god I've never paid attention to this joker before.

That was for Pedoman, whose username is kind of disturbing in a way. ;-)

Brian Sabean did some good things early on ..
he traded away the prospects that someone else acquired and developed in order to build a heck of a team by 2002 ...
The problem is, though -- and the difference is what makes BB so great -- is that he's a one trick pony. He's been an utter failure at dealing with a team whose best days are behind it.
Beane has done some great work in acquiring the pieces to potentially push a good team to greatness -- adding guys like Frank Thomas and Jermaine Dye, for instance -- but he's also shown the ability to identify when his team has hit its peak and turn it around quickly.

One way to put it:
Sabean was 1-2 years late preparing for Bonds' exit while Beane was 1-2 years early preparing for the next rebuild. Put it together and it makes Beane about 3 years ahead of Sabean's curve - which is a lot.

Sabean's also about 3 years behind Zito's curve

and that's why he thinks he's better

I noticed that too.
This guy isn't quite sure what he's talking about, methinks.
Also, why the hell don't *I* have a job doing this kind of stuff....

Non-sense
This guy dismisses the fact that Sabean orchestrated the biggest trade blunder in sports...Peirzynski for closer Nathan "and two other players." Disregard Boof, that's fine. But come on, you ignore the fact that Sabean lack foresight in trading away the best lefty in the game not named Santana. Crap.

Slight exaggeration?
Liriano looked like a star for a season, then missed a season, and now is starting in the minors because he's not looking good enough right now. Could be a sad case of a potential star succumbing to "never the same again" status following a setback. Or he could come back strong (I hope he does - he's a terrific talent). But right now, only Nathan looks like the true blunder. Though Nathan alone makes that trade pathetic.

Well
Liriano in 2006 contributed way way way way more to the Twins than AJ did to the Giants. He is a top 5 MLB pitcher when healthy, and I expect him to get back there given the usual success of TJ surgery. Liriano and Nathan didn't figure to be stars at the time, but I think it's fair to say it was a historically bad trade ex post.
The A's colors are green and gold.

I think it was historically bad starting from
the moment A.J. punched his own trainer in the balls. It was right about then that 24 players asked, "Can we have Nathan back? Or even just Boof?"

Nathan for AJ straight up would have been horrific
The fact that Liriano and Bonser were also part of the deal just exacerbates it

Sabean
Even admitted that although they received Kent in the matt Williams
he was just a throw in and whoever the other guy was is who they targeted

Mostly, the Giants were left to admire Brewers starter Carlos Villanueva, who originally came through the San Francisco organization but went to Milwaukee in the 2004 trade that netted pitcher Wayne Franklin. There is a story here in Cheeseland that when the Brewers asked for Villanueva in the deal, Giants general manager Brian Sabean did not know who he was.
