pronunciation guide for ken korach
ken, i hope you read this. if you don't, someone who knows you will tell you the following. you are an awesome baseball radio god. bill and lon have absolutely nothing on you. doesn't hurt that i'm in santa rosa and you frequently mention bennet valley golf course, rancho cotate... but, please stop pronouncing emil brown - EE-meal -long e and accent on the first syllable - instead of uh-MEEL. (accept my apologies if the rbi machine told you that is the way he says his name). thanks bro.

I would scream
At the radio, “there’s no U in Montreal!!!”, I’m glad the Expos moved so we don’h have to listen to that much anymore.

BAWTIMORE....or however he says Baltimore is the only thing
that bugs me. KK is a GREAT announcer.

Most competent announcers
actually ask the players face-to-face how they want it pronounced. Similar situation took place when Eric Chavez came up.
Problem was, Chavvy.
Someone would ask him, “Is it pronounced CHA-vez” and he’d say, “Uh, yeah”. Then someone would say, “Ist it pronounced cha-VEZ” and he’d also say, “Uh, yeah”.
He was simply trying to be low key, and it helped …no one!
Look at the bright side, ...we don’t have a “Turd -del” to worry about.

This year I have noticed
that Korach has made a point of pronouncing it “CHAH-vez” instead of “sha-VEZ”.
Eric told the announcers that “sha-VEZ” was fine…but the problem was, when he did promos that played during between-innings commercial breaks, he used “CHAH-vez”.
I guess Roy Steele will be the final arbiter. He has always said “sha-VEZ”.

He also said
DEE-hay-soos. Don’t think he should be the final arbiter.

You probably remember
that the Royals center fielder of the late ‘70’s-early ‘80’s (who later played a couple seasons for the A’s) was often Willie NELSON on the Coliseum PA.

Kenko mentioned this a couple of times at the begining of the season Emil wanted it the way KenKo says according to KenKo.

Well, I actually like Ken Korach a lot
and really dislike whoever the other play-by-play guy that takes over a few innings at a time sometimes.

yup
the gap between the magnificence of Korach and the horribleness of Vince C. is well chronicled here.

I'm still wondering
what Roxy Bernstein is doing for a living between Cal basketball seasons, now that he no longer has a job with the Marlins. Last I knew, Roxy lived in the Montclair district of Oakland. Vince lives in Flower Mound, TX. Why is this a difficult decision?

You just blew my mind
I honestly had no idea Roxy did baseball. He’d be a great fit.

i also think misprouncing things sometimes
gives some of the guys more character when everything else they do is good. But when they suck, it’s a fun thing to jump on them for.

Jon Miller Pronounces Every Name Correctly ... but he sucks
Jon Miller: “Here’s the pitch … cuuurve-ball … ooh …. that was a curveball…”
Me: Hey, John, I heard the bat hit the ball, I heard the crowd roar, but you haven’t told me anything except what the pitch selection was.
Jon Miller: “Slider!”
Me: Ug.

Way Off
Jon Miller is the best broadcaster in baseball right now bar-none. It is too bad that Charlie Finley fired him back in the 70’s otherwise we would have had the opportunity to enjoy him on a regular basis for all those years.

Are you kidding me?
I suppose it’s a matter of taste.

You are joking right?
John Miller is too impressed with his own sense of humor to be entertaining to me. I like listening to XM radio so I can hear all the teams. Most of the guys are decent, and there is really a different dynamic that all of these guys play to base don the regional audience. For instance, mid western announcers can be glorified cheer leaders and that bugs the heck out of me in general.
I really like Tom Hamilton in Cleveland, Dave Niehaus in Seattle, Rory Markas in Anaheim, Eric Nadel in Texas, Joe C in Boston and Charley Steiner in LA.
I really dislike John Sterling in New York, John Miller, Joe Angel in Baltimore, Ron Santo in Chicago and Dan Gladden in Minnesota.

Jon Miller has a fine voice...
...too bad he uses it to spout so much oral diarrhea.
Formerly known as K56 and SPWC, in case anyone cares...

you know
too bad you used “oral diarrhea” , you blew an excellent chance at using the excellent word logorrhea.

Matt Vasgersian
I was introduced to his announcing style by MLB: The Show and found that I could actually stand video game announcing for once. I’ve since liked his work for the Padres, and more recently for the Fox network. He’s good calling the NFL, too, except they put some stiff in the booth with him (insert your joke here).

I have wished
Matt V would come to the A’s.
Sine I mostly listen on the radio I’d prefer the A’s televised more games. So they could replace Fosse on the radio side.

Damn
I thought this post was about how to pronounce Korach’s name.
