The Dan Johnson Era: A Retrospective
Why, it only seems like yesterday that the Rays picked up Dan Johnson. In fact, it was two days ago. My how the time flies. Sadly, the Rays designated the legend for assignment Wednesday. His days, both of them, with the Rays appear to be over. So much has changed in the world. Think back to what the Rays and the world was like when Johnson joined the Rays:
* George H.W. Bush was in his second term as president.
* Gas cost $3.54 a gallon.
* Popular TV shows were Lost, American Idol and Deal or No Deal.
* Joe Maddon was Rays manager.
And then there's Johnson. As he walked out the door Wednesday for likely the last time, you have to wonder what was going through his head, what memories he held most dear. Maybe it was the time he showed up at Tropicana Field for batting practice and found everything locked. Maybe it was the time he asked someone where the bathroom was. Maybe it was the time he picked up his bags right before he walked out for the last time.
Today is a sad day. An era has ended. The Rays won't be the same. The only comfort we can take is that someday, perhaps even in a new ballpark down by the water, we will all look on the outfield wall and see Dan Johnson's retired number, good ole No. 17. Or 22. Or ... what number did he wear again? The Rays never lost a game with him in uniform. That's the only important thing we need to remember.
So long, Dan, we hardly knew ye. And here are two photos to remember Dan Johnson:

George H.W. Bush was in his second term as president.
That’s the first Bush. He only served one term.
George W. Bush is the President. George H.W. Bush is his father.

In their defense,
it IS Florida we’re talking about here.

Good Luck To Dan
I always like DJ. Like most ANers I always doubted that he could stay in the bigs and be productive, but it would be nice if he could fit in somewhere. Totally class act. You wonder if Texas would give him a shot. Wash loves him.

There is a rather significan portion of the baseball population
less deserving of a roster spot than Dan Johnson.
I still can’t figure out why the Giants won’t frame Aurilia for a murder or something so they can give Johnson his roster spot.

Word
I still think DJ has potential, and I’d like to see him get a chance to prove it, and SF seems like the ideal choice… for both DJ and the team.
In hindsight, Beane and Sabean could’ve traded DJ and Rajai and been done with it.

BB asked for a PTBNL
And Sabean balked.

Really!
That’s kind of funny. I still think Sabean is afraiid of Beane, afraid that he’ll get publicly embarrassed with a bad deal, but I was also wrong in my belief that Kenny Williams would never deal with Beane again, so what do I know?

Dan Johnson: Tampa Bay's Langerhans
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

Not quite!
“islets” Langerhans came to the A’s with a reputation as a superior outfielder….only to commit an error in the few games he was out there!
Glad they released him, but not if it means he winds up in Durham!!
Much worse than Sacto!
Let’s hope the Mets or Yankees grab him.

Still - I'm determined to get a Ryan Langerhans home jersey.
The irony would be kickass.

It could've been taken
at the games played at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex. I know the D-Rays (I’ll never relinquish the “Devil” in the name) play some home games there now.
I think that particular series was against the Braves.

Cribs
I can’t wait to see DJ on Cribs. I wonder if he’ll have the tampa bay home or road jersey framed on the wa;; of his billiards room?

I just want to see his garage
I wonder if he has done the honorable thing and bought a Volvo to ghostride?
