Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Jesus Guzman

This is my first AN Post.  But my question is:  What does anyone know about this Jesus Guzman kid who's tearing things up in the Texas League.  He's hitting .535 with 14 RBIs!

I know the A's are a loaded at the top of the farm system with 5 2B's ahead of him, but is he at least worth keeping an eye on?

Actually, with all the attention on Sacramento (with all the call-ups) and Stockton (with that pitching), Midland has quietly gone 9-1.

I was wondering about him too

He can actually play 3B and SS in addition to 2B. I know he was picked up in the offseason as a minor league free agent from Seattle. Anybody know if he’s for real??

Loaded with 2B's?

The A’s really don’t have any good infield prospects in the minors, so anyone who has a good season can probably jump to the top of the list.

That seems like an unduly harsh characterization

Both Josh Horton and Gregorio Petit are good infield prospects—not blue-chip, mind you, but good.

Horton maybe he decent

Petit has a good glove, but he hasn’t really hit at all in the minors, and there is no reason to believe he will start hitting now. All Glove, No Offense infielders are not that hard to find, and they usually end up as bench players.

We need Starters, and Good Starters, since this team is not exceptional anywhere in the lineup.

Look at Omar Vizquel's hitting numbers in the minors

They’re not particularly pretty. But he figured things out eventually and became, in his prime, a pretty good hitter as well as a masterful defender.

Petit’s minor league hitting numbers are better than Vizquel’s.
